Marmite but I do like a crop of Worcestershire sauce in a Bloody Mary.

3peassuit · 28/01/2023 10:13

Drop not crop.

They are two completely different things though? I put marmite on toast, worcestershire sauce in a spag bol. How can one be better?

They're totally different products used in totally different ways.
In fact id be likely to use them both in one dish.....

Though thanks for teaching me what worcestershire sauce was!

Exactly. You need both although my husband (from Sheffield) will only have Henderson's Relish so we have to have that as well.

Love both

Nhytfdetykbcz · 28/01/2023 12:13

Marmite. It was sent from heaven.

Ifailed · 28/01/2023 12:15

As PPs have stated, they are different products, one made from left-over yeast from brewing, the other from rotten fish.

I like them both.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 12:24

Worcestershire sauce. I can take or leave Marmite.

Fifiesta · 28/01/2023 12:30

I dislike marmite, but Worcs. Sauce is a store cupboard staple - we use it in bolognaise as already mentioned and with lemon juice, tomato purée in mayonnaise for a prawn dressing.

Worcestershire sauce isn't rotten fish, it's anchovies. However the Romans did have a much coveted sauce made from salted fish which in some stages could have rotted or deliquesced.

As for marmite (yum) v Worcestershire sauce (yum). One is a yeast-based spread which is highly salty. The other is a liquid. I wouldn't use marmite in a casserole because it can be overpowering. I wouldn't use Worcestershire sauce in a casserole unless it had tomato stock or fish pie. It is however the king of tomato cocktails for which hot pepper sauce is also neccessary!.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 28/01/2023 14:09

Like both but if I had to pick, worstershire sauce all the way. I still mourn the loss of Worstershire sauce twiglets. The original Marmite one are so inferior.

ChrisPPancake · 28/01/2023 14:49

Depends what for. Marmite in a bloody mary would be weird. Worcester sauce and butter on toast also strange.

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 28/01/2023 14:52

Obviously the answer is c) neither: Henderson's relish

jay55 · 28/01/2023 15:36

Marmite.
I could happily live without Worcestershire sauce but my life would be less without marmite.

Agree 100%. I am a Sheffield lass born and bred, and Hendersons runs through my veins.

When Sean Bean was in New Zealand filming LOTR, he took boxes of Henderson's Relish and gave bottles to the cast and crew!!! Spreading the love.
