In March were going to London to see a show as 10 year anniversary present. We are contemplating whether we should stay in a hotel or travel into London via a train which takes 1 hour and 10 mins from us that morning and then travel home later that evening also. I've been searching all day on hotels they are just so expensive in Central London we can't decide!!

Stay in a hotel if you can afford it. Then you arent clock watching, wondering if the late night trains are running.

Then you can go to a bar after the show too.

MyOldCaravan · 27/01/2023 20:24

I'd say if you're going to stay then make sure you go early the day of the show and do some sight-seeing.

Most hotels will keep your luggage for you the next day, so again book a later train home and enjoy London! It's such a fabulous city.

We do this and book into a Premier Inn near the arrival station. Drop bags, tell them we'll check in at 11 and we get a clear day in London. We use premier inn near King's x(there are 3 in walking distance) but at a push we've also used travelodge. Not that expensive and worth the full day out without clock watching.

I'd just go home after the show. An hour and a bit is not long to travel back.

With the train strikes I'd at least book a refundable room just in case and then cancel it closer to the time if you don't need it.

With the trains as they are at the minute, I'd definitely get a hotel.

WFHbore2023 · 27/01/2023 20:29

Book a hotel.

You can have a nice stroll, stop in a bar for a drink, and then make the most of the next morning - walk to a market for some breakfast, do a little sightseeing

you're seriously over thinking this, just have a night away and enjoy your anniversary!! www.mumsnet.com/talk/uk/4729453-lyceum-theatrehow-do-we-get-there?reply=123435686

Push the boat out and enjoy a night in a hotel. There'll be people here who'd love to look for a reasonably priced hotel for you if you give dates, arrival station etc.

Mum97540 · 27/01/2023 20:40

Can't you stay on the Waterloo Travelodge or something? It's not usually too expensive compared to some other places and handy for transport links.

Newlychosencatservant · 27/01/2023 20:42

I would stay if I could OP. What date are you going?

I've had a long!!! Look at them out its like they all rnage from 150-200 it seems so much money for such a basic hotel

Nox Paddington is only £94 for a double room that night. Some great deals over Whitechapel way too. Stay over and have a nice time.

DaVariance · 27/01/2023 22:45

I'd be getting the train home as it's only a matinee
