Why / how would FH have this woman in WhatsApp?

FluffyBunni · 27/01/2023 20:14

Was checking a family member message on husbands WhatsApp whilst he did our DC bathtime- he doesn't normally mind me using his phone though I didn't specifically ask on this occasion. I opened WhatsApp to look for the message I'm looking for and see he's received a message earlier today from a young woman saying "hey Liam, can you grab some food for me". Husbands name is NOT Liam. Woman's number is +63 which is Philippines. Photo is a young Filipino looking woman.

What is this alll about?

I would agree it's spam. The water company I am with was hacked and I contacted my bank to discuss security on my account. A few days before I had received a WhatsApp message from what seemed to be a plumber, message was 'Hi', nothing else. I live in rented accommodation and the estate agents annoyingly do give my number to their tradesmen without letting me know first but I don't respond to random messages, I contact the agent first to check it out, but hadn't got around to contacting re this, I was suspicious as there was no detail eg 'Hi this is to arrange access for work on the property'. Discussed this 'Hi' message with the bank and they said it was a scam, they were trying to hook me in and I did the right thing by ignoring it. So you do get spam on WhatsApp.

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 27/01/2023 20:58

I’ve only had a new number since May last year and I’ve had 4 of these spam messages. Hardly anyone has my new number so it’s probably some computer throwing out numbers hoping they get a hit.

whatdoidonowffs · 27/01/2023 21:06

I’ve had these before usually a rubbish message like yours it’s to make you reply wrong number then they start chatting and try and get you to send money
don’t give it a second thought

KingJulien · 27/01/2023 21:08

It’s spam. I’m in Aus, happily married, don’t use dating sites or porn site etc and get these messages sometimes. I just delete them.
OP you sound very insecure and your story about going in to your DH’s phone to find a family WhatsApp is not believable. Sounds like you were checking up on him.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 27/01/2023 21:30

Ha! I thought maybe Dear Husband had become Fucking Husband!

risefromyourgrave · 27/01/2023 21:40

It’s definitely spam. I had one calling me John asking me if I was up for a round of golf in London, and another one from a different number apologising for leaving me waiting for our coffee date. They basically try to engage you in conversation once you tell them they’ve got the wrong number. The second one was portraying herself as a ditzy blonde, obviously to entice me in. 🤨 As I’m straight her womanly wiles didn’t tempt me…

FluffyBunni · 27/01/2023 20:17

If it's spam then how? I've never ever received an unsolicited message on my whatsapp. Only ever contacts.

I have, twice now I think.

MeinKraft · 27/01/2023 22:27

Does anyone else get the ones on Facebook about 'I'm a hot mom' alright mate so am I what are you sending me this Grin

xprincessxjanetx · 27/01/2023 23:07

I've had this lots of times, usually from Chinese people. I am not signed up to any online dating sites of the sort. It's definitely harmless spam.

Cornelious2011 · 27/01/2023 23:15

I've never had spam through WhatsApp. Is this a thing?

Wtf? This is pretty much a whole thread saying that it is a thing. How can you have read the thread and not understood that 😂

Somebatshitteryonhere · 27/01/2023 20:43

For goodness sake. What’s wrong with you op. At what point did you think your husband was picking up food for a woman in the phillipines. I mean fucking hell. Star Trek is pretend. We can’t really teleport.

cringing for you and your Jealous insecurity. That’s off the scale.

😱

Eurgh....

WetBandits · 28/01/2023 00:08

I mean, I’m not sure you were checking your husband’s phone for a message that couldn’t have waited until he’d finished bathing the baby, but what you found when you were snooping checking for a message from a family member was spam. It’s not a young, hot Filipina at all, but you see how easy it is for people to get sucked into it? You thought it was real so maybe some other gullible person would too, and sign their life savings over to the sender.

Yes I think its a fairly new thing. It'll have a picture of a pretty young woman as a profile picture but most likely a man mass texting people with the end game of scamming.

Bellalalala · 28/01/2023 07:53

I am confused by the ‘I haven’t had it so can’t believe it does’ attitude to this.

It happens. Some people just put random number in and hope for a reply. But peoples numbers are often available for spammers to use. In the same way you get spam calls.

I got the ‘mum I broke my phone this is my new number’ scam text the other day. Both kids were with me so I knew it was a scam. Just ignored it.I haven’t never online dated or anything like that.

It happens. It doesn’t mean you have found evidence that he is probably cheating or been on dating sites.

toomuchscreentime · 28/01/2023 08:02

Absolutely innocent. I had exactly the same thing yesterday except mine said something like hi, can you talk. I'm definitely not on any dating profiles etc or having an affair with a young hot Filipino 😂

dkedm15 · 28/01/2023 08:04

I've had 2 spam texts on WhatsApp from different numbers, one calling me Juliet asking if I wanted to go to watch a show in London and one calling me Sven asking where the biscuits were

ThirtyThreeTrees · 28/01/2023 08:18

This person didn't get your husband's number from anywhere. They have no idea the number belongs to your husband.

It's a spam message, spammers don't usually just hit up one number at a time. The exact same message will have been sent to hundreds of people at the same time.

Your level of suspicion and paranoia is unwarranted.

IHeartGeneHunt · 28/01/2023 08:21

I got two similar recently- one from someone calling me Mum and one from a "woman" asking about dinner this weekend. Both spam. Just blocked them.

Bellalalala · 28/01/2023 08:21

FluffyBunni · 27/01/2023 20:23

If Spam then how? Do you guys who've had this before go online dating or anything? I just can't fathom how some hot young Filipino got my husbands number.

You do realise the picture probably isn’t the person sending the message, don’t you?

They simply want people to reply. Then engage them in conversation then ask them for money. It’s unlikely to that woman. It’s a photo they are using hoping it encourages some people to respond.

Witsendwilly · 28/01/2023 08:27

If this random spam message stresses you out then I suggested you never, ever login to his email and find out about all the other affairs he is having 🙄

user50and · 28/01/2023 08:36

I've had two in the last two days and never had anything before

lobsterkiller · 28/01/2023 09:07

Yup, been spammed before on whatsapp. Person used a name similar to mine but not quite mine. I checked and it was a US number. Found it a bit disconcerting but just blocked the number.

BattleofBeamfleot · 28/01/2023 14:21

It's called a pig butchering scam.

It's some badly treated minimum wage worker in a scam factory who's been given a script of how to get strangers to build up a rapport with you if you contact them out of the blue pretending you think you're someone else, and then you just "get chatting".

Once they've earned your trust over a few months of this idle chitchat where they want nothing from you but to show you pictures of their dinners or dog or whatever, random stuff, they recommend an app you might find useful- a payment service or investment manager app. Once you start to use it, they take you for everything you've got.

Fatten the pig, and butcher it.

Thats interesting thanks for the info! I was wondering what the end game was.
