What age can maths tuition start in the UK?

Say once a week, a maths tutor coming for an hour or something?

I had someone from age 4 in Singapore but I know that isn't the norm here. And I'm not saying age 4 is necessary at all

I didn't have an English tutor because I was naturally quite gifted at that and my family couldn't afford both

Can anyone give me a rough ballpark?

It's a personal belief of mine that even if a child is fine, they can always learn more and enjoy themselves even more in the classroom if they're confident and know their stuff more than is expected. It feels good to excel!

Also sorry for grammatical errors, English isn't my first language

It can start as young as four if you want it to and can find a tutor willing to do it, but it shouldn’t be necessary at that age. I know of plenty of 4/5/6 year old children that have had extra tutoring when they’ve struggled to keep up in class.

@MelchiorsMistress thank you for your reply!

From personal experience where most classmates had a tutor, you could tell those that did not. And they usually fell behind so very different to your experience of having a tutor and falling behind with it

It is interesting. I wouldn't be considering a knuckle down approach but just wanted someone maybe from age 4/5 to install maths confidence in DD? I am not a good teacher and struggle to explain maths well

I think at 4 a child should be enjoying playing and learning more than in school time is ludicrous. You obviously lived somewhere where tutors were more the norm. They are certainly not the norm for primary age children in the UK. The exception being those who get tutors for their kids to pass 11+ to get into grammar schools if they have them in their area.

Tutors are reasonably common in my area for exam years to help boost grades. My DS 15 has one for English, but mostly due to missing school from Covid.
