Want to get up earlier but so tired

I was working on the principle that if I got up earlier, I'd very soon be tired in the evenings and by default would go to bed earlier. I am going to bed earlier, but not enough, and am so exhausted in the mornings I'm struggling to get up

I feel mildly hungover every morning.

Set my fitbit for a "gentle wake up" between 6 and 6.30. Thinking ut would be an easier wake up. It went off at 6.21 today but I snooed it and was back to sleep immediately.

Any tips on how to get myself out if bed and have energy in the morning?

I'm just jumping on for tips as I am so so bad at this. I reckon my natural wake up time would be 8/8.15. Problem is I got to get me and the kids out the house by 7.45am.

In an ideal world I'd happily get out of bed at 6.30am and be one of those people who enjoys the quiet of the house with a cuppa before the kids get up at 7.

The reality is though that I love my bed and the cosy warm mornings in it and roll out of bed at 7.30, into whatever clothes I can find and then cheekily berate the kids for not being dressed ready to leave.

How's your diet? I found when I wasn't eating the best I was way more tired. Didn't help that I'm chronically anaemic and D deficient! Since sorting out my vitamins / eating better I'm sleeping so much better. I take iron and vitamin D (as told to by a doctor but just buy them from the pharmacy because it's cheaper) then also magnesium which has done wonders for my sleep. Sounds boring but less refined sugar as well has made such a difference, although im still working on my diet coke addiction!

Do you have a good bedtime routine? Sounds childish but I drop off to sleep really quickly now, before I could be tossing and turning so although in bed I wasn't resting.

Following with interest as I am also crap at this!!!

I have a lumie sunrise clock which helps a bit. I've also tried forcing myself to bed earlier (literally after when my kids go to bed!) but I'm still typing this at 07:45 from my pit!!!!!

It's always harder in the winter and despite my username I am definitely NOT a morning person. The best thing I've found has been my sunlight alarm clock. It starts gently putting on light half an hour before wake up time so by the time my alarm goes off I feel vaguely awake rather than dragged from the depths of sleep. It's a Phillips Lumea one.

Following with interest, same here! Don't want to not have an evening so once young DC are in bed I stay up till 9/9:30/10 latest but am so ready for bed way before that. Have chronic fatigue (awaiting diagnosis) so that doesn't help.

Do you have to get up early for work?

I do think there is sometimes a bit of an odd attitude towards sleeping a bit later. I go to bed at 9, due to the fact I have a very early waking toddler. It is true I don’t ‘waste the morning’ or ‘the best part of the day’ as my dad used to claim but I’m not sure it is! As it is I am wasting the evening which I think is far preferable!

Once or twice a week I'll get up at 6.15 and do a workout. I love it I'm always in a better mood and have loads of energy.

I seem to forget that the rest of the week and it's impossible to get up.

Every time I do it I end up with a cold/flu and I know it's a coincidence but it's happened twice in a row now so maybe not that good!

I also have a lumi alarm clock and it's so really help! The lights then the birds wake me up

Bemyclementine · 27/01/2023 08:00

I posted before about the sunrise clock but am rather poor atm so haven't bought one.

My diet could be better, I've started the year with Dry Jan and I suppose I was expecting that to help (was drinking daily previously, too much wine)

I'm single, 2 DC. Without kids I can bounce out of bed , but I do the typical "staying up after they're asleep to get sone peace/me time" thing

I'm having a few issues with youngest dc and it definitely helps the while day if I'm up and sorted before them, so I can ficus on them when they get up

I am also anaemic but struggle with iron. I take Vit D, and thyroxine. Maybe I need a check, I wouldn't have thought so though

@Blendandmix I did a morning workout on my day off last week and was buzzing all day, but it was after the school run (when I normally go to work)

How much sleep have you had?

I am trying to adjust going to bed earlier, both DH and I are natural night owls but as we are getting older we both need more sleep. I can remember running on 5 and 6 no problem now I really need 7.

Fizbosshoes · 27/01/2023 08:43

Interesting. I'd love to be a morning person but I'm naturally quite lazy in the mornings. And I'm also really crap at going to bed early! An early night for me would be about 10.45.
Partly because I'm actually doing stuff (we eat fairly late due to sports/clubs so then clearing up etc ) but also faffing/watching tv/phone scrolling

Sandysandwich · 27/01/2023 08:44

I make up a keep cool bottle of ice water before I go to bed, and put it on my nightstand.
I make myself have a drink as soon as I wake up and its unpleasant at first but it is really refreshing and stops me feeling like going back to sleep

Jesus Christ!! That sounds like a form of torture!!! But if it works I guess...

Bemyclementine · 27/01/2023 08:59

@OfDumplings I've just looked at my fitbit for hours sleep, my nights are far later than I'd realised so that's my first port of call. This week so far I've had between 6 and 7.5 hours, but the previous 2 weeks were between 4 and 6. So that explains a lot.

Here for the tips...I could have written this! My husband is a morning person which is highly annoying too 😂

Madaboutthecat · 28/01/2023 14:00

I was like you, and my partner complained about my snoring too. I got myself referred to a sleep clinic and was diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I now have a cpap machine. Whilst it’s a bit of a b@ll@che it’s made the world of difference to my energy levels and how I wake up in the morning. Consider speaking to your doctor about this. X

jumpingbean1810 · 28/01/2023 16:49

I put my alarm at 6am and put it on other side of room so to switch it off I have to get up. Then once I'm up I think, right I'm up now so I may as well do my workout.
