1yo with covid had seizure

I’m just here for a little emotional support.

My entire family caught covid and my baby girl who is only 1 and a half had what the paramedics suspect was a febrile seizure.

She seemed like she was coping well enough. But she got really tired and fussy so we checked her temperature. It was 37.7. Seemed well enough for a sick kid so we put her down for a nap.

We were asleep for about an hour and a half. Then she started “kicking”. This is typical behaviour so I ignored it for a bit. Then she started whimpering. I assumed it was a nightmare so I started trying to comfort her and wake her up. That’s when I saw her face. Her eyes were open but her eyes were rolled up into her head. Her entire body was twitching. I picked her up and it started dawning on me that she was having a seizure.

I called for my husband and told him what was happening and told him to call 911. It felt like an eternity. I think it went on for about ten minutes. The paramedics came and took her and my husband as only one could go. I let him take her because she was asking for him all day while he was working. 😔

They are still at the hospital now and I am at home worried sick feeling absolutely useless.

The only positive out of this was the paramedics where optimistic that she would be okay because she was crying after indicating that she was breathing well.

Oh you poor thing, sounds so scary. Sending a handhold and hoping she gets better soon. 🫂

Please don't worry, febrile seizures are very common in very young children. It's caused by a fast temperature spike, there are no long lasting effects and they usually say that if it lasts less than 5 minutes then you don't need to call paramedics. Both my little ones had them at around the age of 18 months. Very scary when it happens so I completely sympathise with you. I hope she can come home soon

Update thanks for the replies. She appears to no longer be a limp noodle as she couldn’t move when the seizure stopped and I think that scared her initially. She is getting spoiled by paediatrics with plenty of juice, popsicles, crackers and cookies. I was surprised they gave her toys even though she was positive! I imagine they must sanitized them though now that I think of it. She seems to be in good spirits for the moment as I video called and she was sitting up smiling and eating happily. It was a relief seeing her back to her old self. 😭

That sounds very scary. I have a one and a half old and every time his temperature spikes we worry he might get a seizure though they are apparently common and don't cause any harm. Speedy recovery and huge huge to all of you.

I’m sorry you and your baby went through that. Though I am both relieved and saddened to hear they are common. I’m happy to know that according to the doctor that they do not cause long term damage. Thank you for the hugs. ☺️

Hi OP I used to have febrile seizures A LOT when I was little. No long term issues and can't remember them myself at all.
