Key workers: are you putting your kids in school during the strike next week?

My DH is a key worker and school have said they will take DD next week when the strike happens. They are using the same criteria as during Covid.

I'm not a keyworker but I have a very busy and stressful job. My DPs both have covid this week so probably can't take DD unless they are clear.

I'm minded just to take up the place tbh. What are you all doing for the strikes?

I find it stressful to even think about home schooling, I think lockdown has left me with trauma.

Is it going against the spirit of the strike to send her in? I do support the teachers and have emailed the Head to tell express that.

Of course she should go in if there is provision and she is five.

Our primary school is fully open for the first strike day so I’m sending them in. I don’t think we have the option not to (I mean you always have the option but it would be counted as an unauthorised absence).

Key workers are a concept of the past. The point at the time was for NHS workers vital to covid mgt.

Where is the line drawn now? Many people have critical jobs that will be affected

Who deems critical. Everyone considers their job important to be paid etc

School ABU to use the covid approach imo!

The school that I work in, as well as the school that my child attends, are NOT going to be open for key worker children on strike days.

@OneFrenchEgg it does feel a bit weird.

I support the teachers and think they deserve better pay and conditions, even though I don't mentally feel up to trying to work at home with my 5yo when there is an opportunity for her to have the continuity of school next week.

I see the contradiction which is why I posted but I genuinely support better teaching conditions in schools.
