Remote learning

I wonder will schools have to implement remote learning (like they did during covid) during any closures as a result of the strikes?

seems a bit unfair that the kids have to have their education disrupted.

There’s no point in a strike unless it impacts people.

Striking teachers will not plan remote learning.

Could they not even provide learning materials through the likes of Google classroom that the kids can work on at home during the closures?

In short, no.

Some heads without a moral compass can and will direct non-strikers and/ or heads of faculty to provide remote learning.

But striking teachers are downing tools for the day, and that includes not doing any planning. The only reason I am up at stupid o'clock every day is because of planning having to be done in my own time.

No, part of the strike is refusal to provide online / remote learning. The point of a strike is to disrupt. My (primary) school have provided some generic links to some online learning sites (think bbc bitesize or similar) if parents want to provide something for their children.
as a parent I will be happy not to be battling with my kids over doing home learning!

Our local school IS providing remote learning...

HollyPopStar · 26/01/2023 06:20

Plethora of lessons/material available on Google Classroom for students to access if they wish to. My Yr12 will work & my Yr10 will be off having a jolly with friends.

My dd’s secondary school is closing to everyone except Y 11, 12 and 13 for the duration of the strikes. The rest of the kids have been told it will be Teams-based classes on each of the days.

@Thrall I actually think this is a v clever strategic move by the HT not morally delinquent. Have you ANY idea how much another 5 days of remote learning will wind parents up? 😂 Especially parents of younger kids who cannot be left at home alone. If the aim of a strike is to annoy and disrupt the maximum number of people, home learning is the way to go. Badly taught Teams classes and utterly miserable children - parents will be clamouring to have the funding crisis solved so the nightmare will end!

On a sadder note, I’m fearful for the MH of my dd and some of her friends of strikes and home-learning becomes a regular thing. So many kids had such a horrible experience in lockdown, and to be back here again feels awful. Annoyingly I’m unable to take time off work, too busy with staff shortages and vast amount to get done. Otherwise I’d have stuck my fingers up at the home learning and taken my dd on a trip somewhere, like that thread yesterday where people were discussing the merits of going on holiday for the week.
