Do Strikes work?

Do the people who strike, or the workforce they represent get any change for the better out of it. Does going on strike actually work?

I think it may lead to improvements on some areas, like working conditions/ organisation failures or so. But not sure about the wages. An increase will likely happen, but I think lower than inflation.
In my opinion, what we need is elections, rather than strikes. Because most of the issues with the NHS, teaching... have to do with years of failure in the organisation, leading to burn out of the employees, huge vacancies, less trainees, loss of expertise and endless loops of paperwork... it seems to be a theme across the board and it 100% does not need to be so.
The money, the resources need to be redistributed across the sectors to provide an improvement in service and working experience.
Instead, this lot seems to be gathering all money and power in a pot somewhere, taking it from all of us, every day.
I so wish we could chuck them out today. That we could call for elections. This is the 3rd time we are ruled by a non-elected PM. I am praying they do not get elected on the next elections.

It doesn't work like that is public sector.

They already expect everyone to go above and beyond with ridiculous working conditions and they've had a huge pay freeze across most sectors for a decade.

What about all the other people strikes impact upon ? Why should other people lose pay , or not be able to go to work , or have to miss hospital appointments?

Are the train strikes working? Or are people finding different ways to travel? Of course, if that happens, there will be less need for trains, so staff will lose their jobs. People with jobs, appointments etc, with make other arrangements if they can’t rely on a public transport service.

its not always easy as “making other arrangements “
My DS is at a SEN school and he relies on transpoart get him there! There is literally no other way, so has to miss a week of school and therapies because the transport staff are striking for a week . So as I said don’t assume that people can just make other arrangements!

Agree, I know of someone with a seriously disabled child and support staff are striking 14 days of this summer half term. They also get overnight respite through the school so if that borders a strike day they are losing the overnight respite as well. School is their only respite and this is going into the long summer hols when they have no respite anyway. So it has a big effect on some people who cannot make alternative arrangements but these are often the most vulnerable and the ones the people in charge of the purse strings don’t give a shit about anyway as they already a drain on resources (the drain on resources is not my opinion btw it’s a quote)
