Anyone else been fucked over by the current account switch service?

I recently switched bank accounts using the current account switch service, thinking everything would switch over automatically and I didn't have to do anything. But a lot of my direct debits (klarna, Spotify etc) didn't automatically change and so I've lost points on my credit score.

So annoying as I'm trying to move out Angry anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can even do about it now?

Maybe complain to the new bank involved in switching your account

Honnomushi · 25/01/2023 17:14

Are the Spotify/Karna payments set up by debit card? If they are you need to manually change them. Switching service only works for a direct debit from your account. If you're sure it's a direct debit from account then you can contact your bank and they should be able to help.

I'm not sure about the klarna payments because I'm not sure how they work, but Spotify definitely is a direct debit

That's a point. If any are recurring payments using your card details rather than a direct debit mandate then you'd need to switch them yourself

Cancelling Spotify shouldn’t affect your credit score because it’s not a contract — you pay monthly for the month ahead.

Danikm151 · 25/01/2023 17:18

klarna is linked to your card not a direct debit. They’re recurring payments.
only dd’s switch. Standing orders wouldn’t either

BettyHumpter · 25/01/2023 17:19

They should really make that more clearAngry or maybe I was just being lazy lol

When I switched recently (Lloyds to Nationwide) I was sent a list of the ones which were regular card payments with a letter saying that I would have to do these myself as only standing orders and direct debits would be changed automatically.

BettyHumpter · 25/01/2023 17:25

@EspeciallyDetermined did you get it in the post? I definitely did not receive one of those that would have been helpful

I recently changed bank and there was a small misstep on the banks part, but nothing as serious as affecting my credit score. I complained and got 75 quid off them.

If I were you, I'd complain and ask them for a gesture of goodwill for how it's affected you.

BettyHumpter · 25/01/2023 17:30

@Dacadactyl ooh that would be nice. I will do that, thank you

Klarna and Spotify aren't Direct Debits, they are recurring payments. You aren't covered by the CASS for these. Not that it helps now, but I change banks often and don't trust the switch service to do it correctly, I always manually switch with suppliers.

BettyHumpter · 25/01/2023 17:32

Bollocks

Definitely says recurring payments aren't covered by the switch guarantee

BettyHumpter · 25/01/2023 19:36

That's my bad

Can you contact Klarna and explain and get the missed payment marker removed from your credit file?

EspeciallyDetermined · 25/01/2023 20:43

I think it was a paper letter yes, because it had a lot of other information about how to access your statements once the account is closed etc too. I thought there were various statutory things they had to tell you, but it might be easy to miss if it's a message in an app. Might be worth a complaint about them not notifying you properly.
