Can't walk on my foot. Do I just leave it? *Graphic*

I stepped on a dropped tea cup last week and pulled a small shard of porcelain out straight away

All fine. 2 days later I couldn't walk properly as it was so sore. It's ray 9 now and the pain just gets worse

There is swelling but only a tiny bit

Pharmacist recommended some magnesium to put on and it hasn't helped at all. I've also tried savalon

What else can I do? I'm in so much pain and I'm a carer. I need my foot Sad I'm just hobbling about at the moment

Get it checked. Many moons ago I stood on a sewing needle that embedded itself in my foot, it needed surgical removal.

Beercrispsandnuts · 24/01/2023 22:56

Hard to say, that’s clearly not graphic, and your foot looks like it’s suffered a minor injury. Maybe pop yourself to a&e if it’s so bad and the image doesn’t show any significant injury.

Yep, get it looked at. You might have a bit of the cup still stuck in there.

boysonfilm · 24/01/2023 22:59

Hopefully this is clearer with the flash on

Thank you for the replies Smile I don't have a local minor injuries unit so didn't want to waste A&E time (and my own!)

Sorry to hear! That made me wince. Did they put you to sleep or just give local anaesthetic and take it out like that?

I had a similar really sore bit on my foot during lockdown, and did the following:

  1. magnesium sulphate paste
  2. a corn plaster on top of that
  3. 2 compeed things on top of that!

It stayed on for about a week, and when I took it off it turns out that there was a hair embedded in my foot 🤯. It came out though with the combination of all of the above. It was quite sensitive for a while afterwards, so I put another compeed on for a few days.

Probably really not the right thing to do but I was desperate - I could hardly put weight on my foot at all.

Johnnysgirl · 24/01/2023 23:07

Looks like there's still something in there. You need to get it x-rayed.

It was done under local. I couldn't put weight on my foot when the needle was in there but once it was out the pain was gone.

Wishiwasatailor · 24/01/2023 23:08

is it a sharp pain if you press on it? If there’s still a shard in there it’ll probably keep being sore until it’s removed or it moves to a less pressure point place. Porcelain sometimes shows up on an X-ray depending on thickness angle etc so could go to a&e for it to be seen and they might do one.
how long did you have the mag sulphate on for? Normally recommend 24hrs (wrap it in clingfilm to keep it there) warm water soaks to soften the skin.
obviously red hot swelling get it checked cos infection Yada yada…..

@Wishiwasatailor thank you, no red hot swelling. Just swelling around where it is that's also now painful when pressed

I put the magnesium paste on for 48 hours. Two rounds

And have been having hot baths in the hope it'll draw it to the surface

What do you mean Covid foot?

Tamarindtree · 24/01/2023 23:15

Bowl of hot water and add Epsom salts. Soak foot until water cools.

Wishiwasatailor · 24/01/2023 23:16

Yeah unfortunately sounds like it needs looking at. X-ray (maybe) a bit of local anaesthetic a little explore with a needle and then once it’s out instant relief.
or it could be just a wound that’s not had a chance to heal if you on your feet a lot cos it’s a high pressure point.
no infection right now but always best to keep an eye in case anything develops. Ex MIU nurse

boysonfilm · 24/01/2023 23:22

Not sure if this makes a difference, but when I push down around that area to see if I can draw it out, clear puss comes out?

Thank you. I am gritting my teeth and really trying but nothing is coming out at all despite soaking it in hot water etc

Wishiwasatailor · 24/01/2023 23:28

It’s not puss it’s serous fluid it’s part of the healing process

Wishiwasatailor · 24/01/2023 23:31

Stop squeezing you probably won’t be getting under it enough to push it out and you’ll just end up pushing it deeper.

boysonfilm · 24/01/2023 23:31

@Wishiwasatailor thank you. I will go to A&E tomorrow

Bekind11 · 24/01/2023 23:34

OP you have done everything you can regarding first aid, you need to seek some help, likely xray and some local anesthetic to remove. I worked in ED for 12 years and it's very common, you will be glad to get out

FelinaTalons · 24/01/2023 23:35

pus isn’t clear
