Working Part time holiday entitlement

Hi, in March I will be changing my working hours from full time to working 4 hours a day 5 days a week to look after my 7 month old daughter. I currently get 26 days holiday plus bank holidays. My boss is telling me when I go to part time I would only get 14 days holiday for the whole year, this I find incorrect as I am still working 5 days a week, searching on gov website I should still be entitled to 26 days holiday obviously paid at 4 hours for the day. Could anyone tell me what is correct, I do get different answers on different websites. Thanks.

Your yearly entitlement should be worked out as an hourly figure and then you can use it that way.

CatsEatDogs · 24/01/2023 21:43

You are correct, same number of working days = same number of holidays

RandomMess · 24/01/2023 21:44

Yep 26 days at 4 hours pay per day is correct

If you work the same hours each day you will get exactly the same number of days but each day is a little shorter.

There is no argument with this earning pattern.

If your hours vary or you don't work every day then it is a harder calculation but you still get 5.6 of whatever your week consists of

Most places do it in hours for part time workers but it still works out the same as days. So for example 5 hours a day over 5 days a week with am entitlement of 27 days works out at 135 hours over the year. I assume your 27 days is excluding Bank Holidays as otherwise you are under the statutory holiday amount.

xyzandabc · 24/01/2023 21:47

You are correct.
It may work out at 14 days worth of full time hours, but you'll only be using 4 hours for each day you take, not a full day.

Either work it out as 26 X 4 hour days. Or do the whole lot in hours. It's usually easier just to work in hours.

It sounds like he may be thinking in days, rather than hours. You get the same 'days' but they are shorter.

As said, most workplaces will calculate in hours, for p/t, as it is easier to manage & keep on top of.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 24/01/2023 21:47

Oh god I got your calculation totally wrong! I read the hours and days wrong. It would be 108 hours a year for you.

PatriciaHolm · 24/01/2023 21:47

He seems to have worked it out as full days of 7.5 hours - 14 days of 7.5 hours is almost exactly the same as 26 days of 4 hours when expressed in hours. As a PP says, you just need to lay it out as hours.
