Car insurance claim

Hello

Someone reversed into my parked car and left details. We spoke and she said she was hoping to pay the repair costs herself rather than go through insurance. I spent two weeks getting difference quotes and advised the damage costs would be £800. She then said she will need to go through her insurance but has now checked and it says she needed to notify them within 48 hours. Can she not claim now? But she also can't afford to pay?

@User19313 How are you getting on with it? Are you able to buy the car back?

Someone went in to the side of my daughters car and totally dented all of her driver's door. The other party didn't want it to go through the insurance so paid for her a new door. You don't always need to get a brand new door. You can get a second hand one from cars that are broken down for spare parts. Have a look on ebay etc. Just put in the make and model of your car and make sure you get the right colour. Find out the number code of the colour your car is.

I don't know where you now stand with your insurers now knowing about this or whether or not you could still settle with the other driver without any claims made on insurance.

Did you report it to the insurance ?

Hello, I called my insurance and they asked me if I wanted to go through them or a third party claims management company. The car has been reviewed via photos to be a drivable write off and but the car is still with me no one has taken it in to be looked at meanwhile Enterprise have called a few times for updates as my hire car for when it does go in.

I've received other advice not to bother with this third party company and instead just claim directly as a third party from the other drivers insurance. Do people think that would be a better option?

I’ve done this before with great success

DD claimed directly from the person who hit her insurance . Her own insurance just logged it for reference .

According to someone I met who worked in car insurance you have to tell your insurer if you have an accident, even if you don't claim. Your premium may increase because you've done something that increased the likelihood of a claim. In this case parking somewhere where someone drove into you. It sounds daft but reflects 'your behaviour' apparently. Ie as you have done something that resulted in an accident, you are deemed more likely to do something that resulted in an accident.

It's all numbers. And probably varies from company to company, and is possibly affected by previous years driving without a claim/accident.
