To feel sorry for GP's.

My DD saw the doctor today as she's been poorly for a few days with sickness and diarrhoea. Rang 111 first and then managed to see a doctor who called me earlier this morning to discuss.

Up until that point I've been a bit critical of GP's - but felt really sorry for the doctor when I spoke to her today. She seemed so drained and flat on the phone. We then saw her in person, and didn't feel rushed at all but I could just tell she was exhausted and probably a bit down/ depressed - voice very low when speaking and it just got me thinking about how overworked and overstretched they are atm. I was probably thinking about something I watched on YouTube recently of a GP practice in Scotland where a doctor was in tears talking about what she had to deal with.

I don't know...just got me thinking that there is a lot of criticism from the media and people annoyed about not being able to get an appointment but they're only human and it must be hard do a job when you can't see/treat everybody that needs to be seen right away.

I agree.

I agree. They are at the very sharp end of a chronically underfunded / poorly managed health service; they carry the weight of interactions between their patients and hospitals ; they take the brunt of the complaints.

I admire those still showing up .
