I realise I have for years been saying I want to learn Tai Chi

I would love to join an online class - has anyone done so?

I'm a beginner - I did a beautiful class years ago for a few weeks, around 30 of us moving gracefully in a circle doing the chain of movements.

I learnt the Yang Family Tai Chi 103 move long form using David Dorian Ross videos - you learn the routine over the course of 100 videos - and I did one a day which was a good pace for me.

His teaching style might not suit everyone, but it worked great for me. His UTube channel has, amongst other things, the complete set of 100 videos, each of which last between about 7-12 minutes.

I tried doing live online classes but found I couldn't keep to a strict schedule and get online every week at the right time. Having a video set I could put on whenever I wanted worked better for me.

Whichever way you go, I hope you find the right method for you, and love it as much as I do 😀

Mmm..... this might be a good place to start... Will try them

Though part of me thinks that Im more likely to do it if I find an online class as the motivation of others alongside helps me! Know that's a bit mad given its still someone on a screen.... Let's see

Just done my first session - Thanks Biffatcrafts - Love his style and the format... doing just 9 minutes a day for 100 days feels like a fab way to learn!! Looking forward to tomorrow already...

So glad you enjoyed it @loveyouradvice 😀

Just so you know, the 103 form he teaches is broken down into 4 parts .. the first section ends around day 15 or 16 (can't remember exactly which now) but I know getting to that point, and being able to do all 16 of the moves one after the other gave me a huge sense of achievement.

You can think of each section as a mini routine in and of itself. I practiced it regularly as a whole, repeating it over and over until I had the muscle memory to really relax into it before I moved on to the next section.

Let me know how you get on! 🤩

Oh, and if you have any questions I might be able to help with, just let me know 😉

Also, if you like the idea of doing your Tai Chi to music (once you know the moves for say the first section and don't need the video on to refer to) I can highly recommend this ... I use it every day and find it so soothing and perfect to accompany the slow movements and calm breathing.

Zombie thread, but wanted to ask a question. What benefits do you see from practicing Tai Chi?
