How do you use your robovac?

Just that really.

ATM mine goes into whichever room I choose as soon as it’s charged. Probably goes on 3-4 times a day and always full of dust.

Toasties goes out on his rounds every day and once a week in mop mode. He's not very good in mop mode so I sometimes help.

user1483387154 · 25/01/2023 07:33

Robottie goes round the flat every 2 days, cleaning each room 2x as he leaves stuff behind if only going round once. Once a week also in mop mode, but he is useless at this so always have to help out afterwards.

Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2023 07:45

Every day (3am-5am): programmed to come on. It does the lounge, study - carpets, and hall & dining room - hard floors.
(These are all accessible from its base, when DP is here I shut the door and it only does lounge & study as it disturbs him in the hall).

2 or 3 times a week: manually put in the kitchen & conservatory - hard floors.

Once a week (or less): manually put upstairs - all carpeted, to do my room, ensuite, hall, main bathroom and whichever of the other bedrooms have clear floors (usually none).

Bumbly Eufy 30C Max.

Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2023 07:48

Also have a irobot bravaa mop, that gets put on in the kitchen, conservatory and hallway once or twice a week in winter and less in summer.
Plus periodically in the dining room.

PrincessGraceless · 25/01/2023 07:55

Which do you have? I’ve looked into getting one but found the different variations and all the good/bad/mixed reviews mind blowing so gave up. Mapping, non-mapping etc etc! Thanks.

hiredandsqueak · 25/01/2023 08:01

Mine does the whole of the downstairs each morning whilst I walk the dog so living room, dining room, hall, kitchen and downstairs bedroom. It takes about 45 minutes. Occasionally I run it again late afternoon (usually when dgs has been) I don't use it upstairs because ds and dd have a lot of stuff and there isn't the free run he gets downstairs so I use the cordless up there.

maggienolia · 25/01/2023 08:03

Derek does his rounds twice a week. We have to make sure that we cover the bolts on the speaker stands or he gets impaled on them, remove the chair in the hall as he gets trapped under it and doorstop the bedroom door so he can't knock out the doorstop and trap himself in there.
He's pretty hard work really. Occasionally he'll get a bit of energy and hump the leg of the dining table.

FlyingUnicornWings · 25/01/2023 08:11

Dinks goes round every couple of days downstairs. Once a week upstairs. Have to tuck cables away as he tries to eat them. He’s dutifully supervised by the cat.

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 25/01/2023 08:13

Harold goes on at least once a day, sometimes twice. Only downstairs though. It’s carpeted upstairs and he’s a £100, non-branded model, so works better on hard floors.
I have tied long fabric toy snakes around all the sofas to block him, as he gets stuck under them otherwise.
It looks slightly odd as a design feature, but worth it to not have the hand-held hoover out!

tealandteal · 25/01/2023 08:15

Ours goes downstairs daily depending on when there are wet dogs/a baby rolling on the floor. The dogs need to be dry so they can go in the sofa as one of them always lies in the way of Alfred the hoover. Then Alfred usually does another room that day as well and which room he does varies.

NoSquirrels · 25/01/2023 08:50

I’m loving the fact most of these hoovers are called boy’s names. All those Harolds, Bobs, Keiths and Dereks doing their duties.

Stardustkid · 25/01/2023 08:53

@ponygirlcurtis oh need to name mine - but Bob is ourTV 😂

BruceAndNosh · 25/01/2023 08:58

@ponygirlcurtis @Fluffnotscruffy I'm totally renaming ours Meryl Sweep. "Eufy" is a bit generic

I replaced the legs on my sofa to lift it slightly robot does a good clean under sofas now

adulthumanfemalemum · 25/01/2023 09:06

I feel like we're doing it wrong. Ours only gets run once a week or so because of all the effort it takes to clear the floors so it can run without crashing into stuff. Eg we put the dining chairs up on the table otherwise it can't get under there, (so the table needs to be clear), move the desk chairs out of study or there's no space for the vac to go. Move the bin out of the kitchen. Plus make sure there's no shoes or other kid detritus on the floor. It feels like a lot of work to make it possible to run it. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my kum made me tidy up "because the cleaner is coming".

DH insisted on buying it and takes responsibility for it, if it was just me I'd rather a handheld where I can just do one room when it needs it, poke around the chairs etc.

GerbilsForever24 · 25/01/2023 09:10

@adulthumanfemalemum yes, i know what you mean. I envy people whose houses are tidy enough they can set it to go automatically at 7am. Ours would die within seconds.

On plus side, the need to put him on creates a reason to do the quick tidy round that's needed, which is an added bonus.

Brendabigbaps · 25/01/2023 09:10

Johnathan is more of a casual worker, we set him off as and when needed in between a proper weekly clean.
personally I think they should come with every dog!

Lindtcat · 25/01/2023 09:11

I've been wanting one for so long and this thread has confirmed I need one!

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/01/2023 09:13

Holly (named by the 7 year old who thinks of it as part of the family so much that she put it in a family portrait at school), goes around the downstairs every day and the upstairs every other day. We do need to vacuum the odd time just to get it really clean, but that's enough for daily cleaning and definitely much better than it would be otherwise.

Roselilly36 · 25/01/2023 09:34

Elon loves cleaning but often comes a cropper and gets stuck under the dining table, he picks up more than our shark, cordless vacuum.

SnackyOnassis · 25/01/2023 09:38

We tried to give ours a cool name (Robot De Niro) but he's defaulted to Bobot, which is what our 2 year old calls him. He's terrified of the robot so we can only run it when he's at nursery - Bobot does the kitchen daily and the living room occasionally, though with a toddler and a very fluffy cat we usually get the Shark out every other day anyway for carpeted areas. I love Bobot.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/01/2023 09:38

Dog comes out most days to do the downstairs, usually when we take the dogs out if I remember (or he touches DDog2's trotters and makes her scream) He does the upstairs whenever I think about it, but it's a little more time consuming to pick up all the cables, clothes, etc beforehand.

He gathers a bin full most days which morbidly fascinates me. I get the big hoover out every few days and it doesn't really pick up a lot more than Dog, so he seems to work well for us.

For the PP who asked, he's a Eufy 30C.

DowntonCrabby · 25/01/2023 09:42

Dusty does downstairs a few times a week and upstairs probably once a week. I sort him out once in a blue moon, it’s generally a DH job.

Sleepwalkingintothewall · 25/01/2023 09:42

Puts does upstairs after the school run, put on charge and then downstairs as we go to bed.

Natsku · 25/01/2023 09:46

Nigel used to vacuum the lounge and playroom every evening after everyone else went to bed but it got so annoying having to move the chairs out (because otherwise he gets stuck between the chair legs) that I let him retire and now he sits in the corner gathering dust rather than gathering dust.
