(lighthearted) If you really wanted to go a particular restaurant but nobody would go with you...

What would you do?

A)Go by yourself
B)Persuade someone to go with you who you'd normally eat out with but who doesn't like the sound of it
C) Grab a randomer/acquaintance and say you'll pay for them if they come ....

I really want to go to Corarima. It's not too far from where I live although not local. I'd ideally want to go for my birthday or some other occasion but nobody I know fancies it! They all say it looks overpriced and/or don't like the look of its menu.

It has fantastic reviews on tripadvisor and I just really love that sort of food.

Shall I just take myself off on a 'me' date? Ask EVERYONE I know until someone says yes?!

What a shame it is too far away from me (I am in West London). The menu sounds fab. Are your friends not very adventurous.

Sod em. Go on your own! Plenty people do. Nothing unusual in it.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2023 15:02

That looks amazing. I will come with you when I next visit my DD in Leeds!

SpikyCoconut · 24/01/2023 20:32

@AtleastitsnotMonday I didn't think of that! And they'lll come and cook at your home too! But I do like the restaurant experience and no washing up too!

@TheYearOfSmallThings I don't think it is either! And I am not rich-I think It's less so 'It's expensive' and more so 'It's expensive for no meat!' from my family/friends!

@VenusClapTrapI love that!
As I said upthread I do most things alone-It's not that, just something about dinner on one's own that I am not quite the same about-I mean I could do it but I'd much rather share it with someone, especially as they're meant to be ultra friendly and attentive-I don't know if I'd feel a bit out of place as a loner.

BUT I am going to go on my own regardless, you've all persuaded me! Next opportunity I can grab to do it!

I eat out on my own all the time. As long as it's not a shared plates type place it's fine.

But I'm a grumpy sod and happy alone.

SpikyCoconut · 25/01/2023 08:50

@ApolloandDaphne deal Grin (It's a bit far out of Leeds really isn't it).

There must be an app for this? Restaurant, party size, dates available, split bill evenly or itemise etc

It could even do the bookings for you…

NoSquirrels · 25/01/2023 08:56

Ask EVERYONE I know until someone says yes?!

Do this! Work colleagues, hobby group colleagues, stick a post on FB if you use it? I love Eritrean food too, but I can see why it might not be a lot of people’s first pick if they’re unadventurous/fussy and committed carnivores. But there will be people in a wider acquaintance group who’ve got the same problem, I bet.

Pick a night, decide you’re going then put the word out that ‘if anyone wants to join’ and see who says yes.

FetchezLaVache · 24/01/2023 13:20

I'm not too far from you, OP - I will happily go with you if you can wait a couple of months!

See! Other people will go if you put the word out…

BustaGrind · 25/01/2023 09:01

Not one of your friends will give it a chance for your birthday? It's around £20 for a main and a drink.

That's rubbish OP. Make sure you refuse their bday choices too.

GunsnSchmoses · 25/01/2023 18:40

OP, I’m not too far from you and am always desperate to find nice restaurants that serve top notch gluten free options. If you’d like company, I would always be happy to go with you. I promise I have good table manners 😉

We could have a full MN outing with @FetchezLaVache as well!

StayGoldenPonyGirl · 25/01/2023 19:54

Looks amazing. I'm a vegetarian and like you have always gone along with the meat lovers, happy to fork out £££ for sub-par mushroom risotto so they could enjoy their Gaucho steaks but received a hard no and disgust when I dared to suggest a veggie place!

Only 30 mins from me so we could go for the 4 person tasting menu at this rate with @FetchezLaVache and @GunsnSchmoses 😆

I would totally do this! I like meeting new people :)

Sorry, just been busy and not been back to this thread-yes I totally agree with the 'every mouthful the same' vegetarian usual options. So bland and unadventurous. I've uttered many a time (under my breath) 'I'm a vegetarian, not a rabbit' or, 'vegetarian doesn't mean lack of tastebuds!!'

I appreciate the responses that understand why I want to go there and that it isn't expensive-honestly, most people I've asked it isn't about money as such just, 'not worth spending as there's no meat' which I find rather old fashioned and as others have said, unadventurous and a bit crass.

The TripAdvisor reviews are consistently good especially about the service but also about the food.

If I do go it alone soon, I will report back once I've been :)
