Get tickets to watch a big stadium rugby game?

WhichPage · 23/01/2023 20:12

Can anyone tell me how to arrange this for DS who has just started playing at High School.

I have no idea but we would love to experience a match in a big stadium.

We are in the North West but would happily travel for this.

Thanks

Which rugby code? Union or league?

BananaSpanner · 23/01/2023 20:15

Pick a rugby team you’d like to see. Go on the website. Click Tickets. Pick some seats. Add to basket. Pay. Et Voila.

Which code? Union or league?

If union, you're probably out of luck for the Six Nations now, but the summer tests are generally easier to get tickets for.

Alternatively, get tickets for a pro club or just turn up to an 1st XV amateur game. If you can say whereabouts in the country you are, we can probably help?

Sale Sharks if it's rugby union.

tattychicken · 23/01/2023 20:27

Yep Sale are prob your nearest big union club.

DFSsale · 23/01/2023 20:28

We still need to know what code to be able to help you?

The Super League season hasn’t started yet. The Grand Final will take place in Manchester in October.

As for rugby Union, I think most of the big matches are at Twickenham but it’s not my area of expertise.

Hellocatshome · 23/01/2023 20:28

You are probably looking at Rugby League if you are in the North West. Sale or Warrington would be a good bet. Just go in their website and buy tickets.

newtowelsplease · 23/01/2023 20:29

Sale sharks will be easy to get tickets for, they often give them away to local schools so think they have plenty of capacity

Stadium is located in Manchester, just near the Trafford centre

Hellocatshome · 23/01/2023 20:30

Sorry Sale is Union Warrington is League. I would find out which he likes as they are fairly different games to watch.

DFSsale · 23/01/2023 20:31

If you’re after League, Wigan Warriors or St Helens are your best bet.

IntentionalError · 23/01/2023 20:35

Assuming you mean Rugby Union, your local team are Sale Sharks, based in Salford. Here is their website which will contain details of fixtures, ticketing etc.

Alternatively, Leicester Tigers (based in Leicester city centre) are a very well supported club who play in a big stadium with big crowds and a great match day atmosphere, particularly in the Terrace standing area which runs down one side of the pitch. You can get very close to the action if you stand here.

I’m afraid I know nothing about Rugby League, but perhaps someone else can advise?

WhichPage · 23/01/2023 20:38

Thank you this give me a staring point now. I don’t think he’ll have a preference for code at this point
However I have heard of Wigan wanderers and that would be easy to get to

Wigan are a good team so I think that's a good option. The DW isn't the best stadium (its big, but a bit run down at the moment) but it's fine and is easy to get to from the M6 or M61.

Just go to this website https://www.wiganwarriors.com/tickets and buy tickets for when you want to go Smile

HellcatSpangledShalalala · 23/01/2023 20:46

I missed that you said DS has started playing, I would definitely check if it's Rugby League or Rugby Union he is playing at school as they are quite different.

Ditto, it makes a surprising difference. I love watching rugby union but really don't enjoy watching rugby league. Find out which your son is playing first.

WhichPage · 23/01/2023 21:45

Thank you I will check before booking. Quite excited to see a live game!

Sale and Sarries will be a good match, both near top of the table and wanting to prove a point.
just wear very warm clothes, and a top layer that is windproof as that stadium is a wind tunnel and it is always freezing

Dont rush off at the end as players often hang about and you can get selfies with them, which young boys seem to love.

Rugby Union crowds are ever so friendly and really don’t mind explaining what is going on to newbies
I had a grandad and grandson sat next to me last season and it was so nice to explain who the big names were, and also the rules as grandad was really a footie fan and had no idea. Grandson was blown away to see players he had heard of, but never seen before.

enjoy
