Would going to the Cinema count for Performing Badge for Brownies?

DD is a Brownie.

She’s currently doing Performing Interest badge (as well as one other). She’s desperate to go to the cinema to see a particular film and I have some vouchers from Christmas I can use for it, would this count as a performance?

Otherwise she has to wait until either school or Brownies go to the theatre which we don’t know when will be (Brownies haven’t been at Christmas for awhile) or hope that I have the money to book us in to the local theatre (plus hope there's something family friendly on). She’s so close to getting Silver Brownie, but if it doesn’t count I’ll focus on the other Interest Badge she’s doing.

I'm a Brownie leader and some of our girls have just done this badge. We went to watch Matilda and many used that as watching a performance. We did make them all talk to us individually about it so that they couldn't copy what the others had said. Some used performances at school of other year groups showing their pantomimes.

@warnc007 Thank you, unfortunately DD missed out on going to see Matilda with her Brownie unit as I missed the sign up, but knowing she could go to the cinema with me and use that instead is great.

Yes, a cinema visit would be fine for part 1. The badge book also gives examples of watching performances on the internet or TV, so if your daughter's planning on doing a singing or dance performance, it might be more appropriate for her to watch some concert clips or talent show performances. It definitely does not need to be a live, In the flesh theatre performance! (although if that's what she's interested in, you might have local amateur dramatic societies or something nearby, which will be cheaper than a proper theatre visit)

We've had brownies in our unit look up concerts and then write a bit about the staging for the concert, what the singer wore and how busy it looked, for example. They've then practiced at home, and have asked if they could do their performance to all the other brownies at the end of the meeting, or next week.

If you do want to see a live show see if a local secondary school or theatre group have something on , it doesn’t need to be professional .
