DS has had a series of terrible jobs in retail. They tell him how wonderful he is, promise the earth and then treat him appalingly.
For the last 6 months he's been working for a household name and helped open the new store where he works. They have been having trouble with staff absences at this and other stores and he seems to have become a valued member of staff, their go to when they need help.
Differently to the other places he's worked, they have paid him extra when asked to cover for managers and have now confirmed a permanent promotion. They also pay mileage (rather than a bit of cash petrol money) when he's asked to work elsewhere.
He's enjoying it. They've made him feel important and he likes going in to solve everyone's problems! These new improved conditions seem normal to me and nothing less than I'd have expected throughout my working life. It's been an eye opener to me to see how badly some of the workforce is treated
He thinks they're going above a beyond because it's so much better than he's used to and in many cases what his friends are dealing with.
Anyway, he's been asked to travel to cover at another store for a week. They've booked him a Premier Inn and paid in advance for breakfast and dinner. Fantastic, he thinks it's Christmas
He's traveling on the afternoon of his day off. He's salaried and gets time in lieu if he works extra hours. Should he be expecting to get his travel time back?
TBH I never have when travelling for work, but wondered what the norm is.
