Dull questions....sausages use by today

Been in fridge over a week, dated use by today. If I cook them presumably ok tomorrow?

Pushing luck... Can I cook, cool and freeze them?

Might just need to accept some waste!

Yes and yes

Piscesmumma1978 · 23/01/2023 17:22

I'd cook them and put them in the fridge until tomorrow.

Hadalifeonce · 23/01/2023 17:23

Why don't you freeze them today if you don't want to eat them in the next few days?

They'll be absolutely fine to cook/eat/freeze. Why wouldn't they be?

Notsogrumpytoday · 23/01/2023 17:25

Don't you have the freeze on day of purchase?

No you can freeze anytime as long as you've stored them correctly.

Cooking also gives you another 2 or 3 days (at least) to eat.

cuminpotato · 23/01/2023 17:27

You could have bought the sausages today. The sausages don't know what day you've bought them!

Notsogrumpytoday · 23/01/2023 17:27

Not been kept in an industrial fridge or freezer. Home fridge so temp not as carefully managed and opened/closed many times a day.

Also use by today. Extra careful I guess because I don't eat meat so it's only for DC.

Will still be fine. If it makes you feel better, cook them and freeze. Or cook and eat anytime in the next 2 or 3 days.

Notsogrumpytoday · 23/01/2023 17:31

Right. Will cook them. Thank you

Obviously use your eyes/smell when you open the package (as you always should rather than trusting the date/packaging implicitly)! Smile

Everybodywants · 23/01/2023 17:37

They'd probably still be fine in 5 days time too. You'd be able to smell if they are not ok

Yika · 23/01/2023 17:39

I would happily freeze on the use by date if hadn't had time to cook. But indeed you can cook and freeze for even more reassurance.
