Tips / Hacks for making daily schedule easier WFH Mum

Looking for any life tips to help me feel better organised and less overwhelmed by plates spinning! Only been in my new job since just before Christmas so still getting used to my new routine and wondering if I'm missing a few tricks!

I work from home and so I try to do a few bits during the working day - eg laundry, but then find I'm struggling to compartmentalise my day properly. My home is a mess and I feel like there's never enough time for it all.

If you're an organised working mum can you share any little tips / hacks or systems you have in place in your home please?

I have the usual burdens of household chores, laundry, cleaning, tidying etc, online grocery order, meal planning, cooking, life admin, caring for toddler when not at nursery, nursery run, then my job (wfh 4 days a week), and trying to fit in 4 workouts.

My toddler is in nursery 4 days a week and I care for her on Fridays at home. Husband works long hours but is helpful with things like dishwasher, bins, putting away laundry and taking our toddler out, though rubbish at cooking.

One thing I wondered about was filling the washing machine every evening and setting it to come on first thing.

Any useful tips that have made your life easier??

Definitely use the timers on appliances that have them. Washing machine, dishwasher and robot vacuum all are set here to come on early AM!

I work 11-2 Mon-Fri at home between school runs. DH WFH full time.

I find I have more energy in the mornings so I hang the washing out and do the kitchen after I've had a cuppa when back from the school run.

Online shopping and home delivery when you can. I do all the cooking so one night a week it's pizza for the kids and DH and I will have a microwave meal to give me a break. Book the slot for 10am Monday and add/remove things Sunday night whilst watching TV. DH texts me if he thinks of anything to add so I can go straight to the Tesco app and add it.

I have two sets of bedding and towels. One set on and one in the wash.

DH and I change the bedding on a Sat morning whilst the kids watch TV.

Keep some biodegradable wipes in the bathroom and clean as you use it.

Hoover round every couple of days (I have asthma and a dust allergy 😩so need to keep on top of that).

I load the washing machine the night before to start at 8am then I hang it up when back from the school run. We are a family of 4 with sports clubs etc so I tend to do one wash per day but can stretch to every other day.

Keep a packet of wet wipes by the front door for a quick wipe of clothes and shoes if needed.

I try and wash up as I go when cooking as DH doesn't finish til after teatime. If I'm loading the dishwasher then it goes on after tea and one of us unloads it the next morning whilst kettle boiling.

I keep a running note of all this in my phone notes so I can add things and remind myself of all this!

DH does the bins, the dishwasher and some hoovering.

Top tips:
Split nursery run and pick up between you and DH so each of you only has half the burden.
One of you have a quick clean and tidy of the house each night while the other is bathing LO.

I make use of breaks and lunch to get stuff done.
Before work: empty Dishwasher, washing on.
Break at 10.30: hang washing out.
Lunch: home admin, shopping delivery, run errands; post office etc.
Break at 3ish: prep dinner
After work: start dinner, get tomorrows dinner out of freezer.
After dinner: wipe down kitchen, dishwasher on.

The house is tidy, I like to keep surfaces clear, this makes a housework a doddle. Easy to run round with a duster. I do the bathrooms on a weekend when I'm having a hair and face mask, takes 10 mins.

I go to the gym either before work or after work, sometimes in the evening depending on what's going on.

We have a division of home chores so when DH is home, he vacuums and will do the laundry.

Just spotted it's an old thread 😣

Meat out night before. Cook a curry or chilli in the morning as I make brekkie for everyone. Then dinner is ready the end of the day. A short mid week wash in the machine. 2 loads at weekends.
