The way they portray labour starting in films and TV

Both my labours started as a dull period type ache, even the second really fast labour/birth. However, every time you see a labour start on TV or in films it's a dramatic, bent over double, gasp/ groan. Has anyone had onset labour that was dramatic like this rather than the gradual build up to 'bent over double' pain. Was your first contraction really painful or is this totally sloppy dramatising of the onset of labour?

They are literally dramatising the onset of labour. That's what they're doing. It's hard to convey a dull period type ache effectively to an audience.

My first was quite dramatic, waters broke all over the floor. The subsequent ones were a bit dull.

No mine was a slow cramping over hours.

But it’s tv. They are always going to over dramatise stuff

Watched the most ridiculous birth scene on Silent Witness last night, made me want to throw something at the TV! They did try and make out it was a gradual build up but then she was suddenly in the second stage and pushing in the mortuary 🙄🙄🙄

Mine went from mild cramps to painful contractions within an hour first time round, was longer the second.

I hate how they always give birth sat up as well…

with mine,no1 the waters broke-I thought I’d wet myself, dull pains that built up
no2 dull pains-they broke my waters
no3-was in so much pain,I use it to compare pain that I feel now-waters went and he dropped out as I was stood up and he landed on the floor
no4-sharp pains until my waters went
no5-waters went and dull pains
no6-waters went splat all over my lounge floor and them sharp pains until I got to hospital and they went down to uncomfortable until I pushed-that bit hurt!

tv births are so unrealistic

Mine was intense from the start but never progressed. Needed a section after 28 hours under general

we are all different I guess

Yes my 2nd but he was a premi and was here on under 45 mins so I would say it's the exception rather than the norm
