Calling HR pros! How many days annual leave/bank hols should I get?

Please could someone advise how many days annual leave I should get this year? I work Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 9am - 3pm.

My contract says "In addition to the usual public holidays, your holiday entitlement will be based on 25 days per annum for full time employees".

For context my contract was with a bigger company previously but they got bought out and I'm now the sole employee of a family run business, my contract was basically just copied over. I only worked for the bigger firm during Covid and joined part way through my maternity leave so all sorts of furlough / AL entitlement accrued during maternity leave muddied the water those years.

Last year I calculated that I should get 16.8 days annual leave, so booked off 17 days as it says something about rounding up. I didn't use any of those days for Easter Friday or the jubilee which I think were on Fridays as took my contract to mean you'll get bank holidays off if you're usually working those days", and just thought that I don't work Mondays so it's neither here nor there. I think I may have been wrong though and potentially should've had an extra day or two for the pro rata Monday bank holiday element?

As were getting an extra Monday BH this year I want to make sure I don't miss out!

Many thanks for any guidance, especially if it includes calculations I can email to my boss when I email him with my intended annual leave days for the year!

That suggests to me that full timers get 25 + 8 = 33 days annual leave

As you work 3 days then â…— of 33 is 19.8 days.

Have a look at Breathe HR holiday calculator and input all the relevant info to get your allocation. I find it the most accurate (my large employers use it) and I also like that I can do my annual leave in hours rather than days so I can be quite precise over use

As there's an extra bank holiday this year then that adds to your total and it becomes 20.4 days

Thank you both! The Breathe calculator agrees with 19.8 days so assume that's based on a normal year in England with 8 BHs. Hopefully they'll update it to calculate with the additional coronation day so I can tell my boss I checked it there. I've double checked the wording and it definitely says rounded up to nearest day for pro rata so that means 21 days. As only good Friday and boxing day fall on days id normally be working you've just bagged me an extra two days over what I thought I got (to look after my primary aged kids during holidays rather than send them to holiday clubs)

Normally if you work 3 days per week that's 60% of a 5 day week so you'd get the full time allowance (in your example 25 multiplied by 0.6.) Then the bank holidays, usually 8 x 0.6 for your allowance but in this year it would be 9 x 0.6 due to the coronation. Add those two together and any bank holidays that fall on your working days you'd need to take out of your allowance. You wouldn't need to worry about booking bank holiday Mondays off if you don't work on Mondays.

Sounds so easy when you put it like that, thank you! Comes out as 20.4 so if questioned that's how I'll explain.

Yes, 20.4....in our place that would mean you get 20.5 days as we round to the nearest half day but if yours gets rounded up to the nearest full day and you get 21 that's a bonus!
