Child passport renewal - identity confirmation. Who did yours?

BankOfDave · 22/01/2023 16:39

Just doing this online and I need to provide details of someone to confirm DCs identity who has known me/them for 2 years.

Did you ask a teacher or just go with a neighbour/friend? I don’t know many people in the area.

I work in one of the recognised professions so the colleagues that have worked together a whole just sign each others. They have to have known you (the parent applying) rather than the child.

Flapjackquack · 22/01/2023 16:45

*while

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2023 16:45

I did it for my colleagues daughter. We are both nurses.

I work in one of the required professions so someone at work. I do LOTS for my kids friends as it's known locally that I can do them and am happy to help

When it used to be a paper form that was filled in, my standard fee was a bottle of wine. Now it's online and takes 2min, I do them for nothing.

dementedpixie · 22/01/2023 16:49

My neighbour did ours as she is a nurse.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/01/2023 16:49

I'm going to have to get DDs first passport soon. I gave up in the past because although I know several people in the right professions, none of them had a passport! Nightmare.

I was musing about it the other day though, and it says that the person I ask will be confirming MY identity - not DDs. So that does rather beg the question why can't I use my passport to do that?!

NatMoz · 22/01/2023 16:50

I've done it for a friend and neighbour.

I had to do it for my baby so used a retired headteacher i knew

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 22/01/2023 16:50

My dentist did both mine and DS's

dementedpixie · 22/01/2023 16:51

They confirm they have known you for 2 years and can also identify the child.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/01/2023 16:52

Oh, to partially answer the question - people I asked who didn't have passports:

Teachers, current and retired.
Pub landlord.
Local gov Councillor.
Nurse.
Accountant.
Chartered surveyor.

Next door neighbour who works for the NHS

BankOfDave · 22/01/2023 17:05

Thanks all, just been through the application and might be able to ask my neighbour who is in a profession listed. Sort of feel cheeky as we’re not exactly BFFs but if someone asked me I wouldn’t mind…

I wouldn’t mind if my neighbour asked me, as long as it was one that had lived here a few years and I knew their name.

Alfiemoon1 · 22/01/2023 17:09

Next door neighbour did ds he’s a pilot

ShesThunderstorms · 22/01/2023 17:10

DPs godmother is a teacher and was happy to do it. We had asked a friend who's a doctor but didn't get a reply and then we felt like CFs as I know some people can be funny about it cant they.

BlackFriday · 22/01/2023 17:13

The teachers in my school have been told (by the Head) that we are not to do passport forms for pupils in school.
But I will do them for friends outside the workplace.

LeafHunter · 22/01/2023 17:16

Friend did it as she is a teacher. I’ve done it for people as I have a business.

FineHairHatesDamp · 22/01/2023 17:23

DDs godmother works for a bank so did it but I didn’t need to get it done for renewal for either of my children as the passport office were happy that it was the same child. I sent it off in plenty of time in case they wanted the picture verified but they didn’t and issued the passport. The original passport ages were 6 and 8 then at renewal 11 and 13 so they had changed quite a bit.

mummyh2016 · 22/01/2023 18:20

My friend, she was the director of a VAT registered company.
Ask the neighbour and take them a bottle of wine as a thank you if you aren't close (or another suitable gift if they don't drink!).

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/01/2023 18:22

I’m a teacher and I do them for kids I teach all the time! As long as I’ve known them for longer than the required time I never mind. Just ask!

Boomboom22 · 22/01/2023 18:24

Really it should be someone you know personally not kids you teach at school. You don't really know them or who their parents are properly so most hts say not to.

SinnerBoy · 22/01/2023 18:32

A driving instructor friend did my daughter's, a couple of months ago.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/01/2023 18:32

I always ask a friend. The instructions specify that it should be someone you know in a personal capacity, NOT a professional capacity, so not your doctor, dentist, teacher etc.

I think it is somewhat discriminatory and there should be a better way of doing it.

Mumuser124 · 22/01/2023 18:46

I wouldn’t mind if a neighbour asked me to sign theirs. It used to drive me mad having to find people to sign things for me. One of the very few perks of my career.

DelurkingAJ · 22/01/2023 18:49

I’m in one of the qualifying professions as is DH. We’ve done a fair few between us ranging from old friends to neighbours.
