Rechargeable hot water bottles are a revelation

I'd never heard of them and saw them on a website when I was buying something else. here They are fabulous. You just plug them in for 20 minutes and they stay hot for ages, longer than a regular hot water bottle. Much less faff than a regular hot water bottle.

Did you all know about them and forgot to tell me? Grin

I only found out about them recently as well.

ihatethecold · 22/01/2023 13:35

Oohhh. I want one. Do you reckon they deliver to England?

Google, there are probably lots of UK based companies that have them.

In theory it sounds good but I like to have my hot water bottle as soon as I wake up while drinking my coffee, 20 minutes to heat up is too long to wait. Same as if you feel ill or kids have tummy ache its too long to wait to use it. It's a great idea though just wish it heated quicker.

A microwaveable one would be a better option in this case, they've existed for years.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/01/2023 13:51

I've had microwavable ones in the past but they don't stay hot for very long IME. Also, it probably wouldn't be an issue for other people, I find that once I'm upstairs I will just go to bed cold rather than bother with going back downstairs with my regular/microwavable hot water bottle. I mean stand there looking at the thing and thinking 'it's cold, but I can't be arsed'. I find with this I plug it in when I get upstairs and by the time I've done my nighttime routine there is only a few minutes left and I just unplug it if it feels hot enough already.

I don't want my dc to have a hot water bottle or electric blanket (bit paranoid about them for children) but this sounds great

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/01/2023 14:01

What is it about a hot water bottle that you don't want for your DC lovinmyblanket? Because this might not suit them either. It's still a container filled with hot liquid, it's just sealed. It doesn't get any hotter than 50ºC so in that sense it's safer than using a kettle and adding cold water to approximate a safe temperature.

Ah, I see. I don't want it to leak/spill/get punctured somehow and scald him. He's in a high sleeper so harder for me to check and remove when he falls asleep.
Not sure why it would burst, I just imagine it happening!
Same reason the control on our heated blanket is on my side of the bed, not dh's Blush

I found heated stones. They are the size of a computer mouse. U can charge them up and they last about four hours each. I keep mine in my pocket at work. Keeps my hands toasty

Millionaireshortbread0 · 22/01/2023 15:18

I've had one for 4 year(was bought it as a gift) which is great for my chronic pain but have noticed recently it doesn't warm up to the higher temperature so I googled it and says they're designed to last 3-4 years so I'm a little disappointed and mulling over buying a new one as it seems a lot of money and bad for the environment. They are great for staying warm for a long time think mine warms in 10 minutes (when it worked).

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 22/01/2023 18:52

I bought a rechargeable hot water bottle for MIL for Xmas. Now I don’t have to worry about her spilling near-boiling water on her hands filling up a traditional hot water bottle.
I got it for about £25 from a well known online retailer with a river in the name!

Gingerlygreen · 22/01/2023 20:14

I love my hot water bottles and have one on the go from the moment I get home from work until the following morning.

I think it's less faff than an electric one though, I can get it piping hot in seconds and not have to worry about it running out of charge and then having to wait for it to recharge.

Every few hours I pour the water from my bottle back into the kettle (water is still warm) and get it really hot again.
It lasts overnight too if I keep it under my quilt.

Regarding leaks I've only had one leaky one in 40+ years, it just seeped out around the bung and was barely warm because there was such a small amount which cooled quickly.

BriteSparke · 22/01/2023 20:41

Thank you for starting this thread OP, I saw one of these recently and have been considering getting one. I get super-awful cramps. My main concern would be, do they get hot enough for pain relief? In the past I've tried the microwavable teddies and they just get barely warm.

ruthieness · 22/01/2023 20:48

Yes they do get hot but sometimes they stop working so well / they turn off too soon and then you have to unscrew the plate and carefully open the water plug and let out some air or top up with distilled water - a fine balance and then check it works again - but they are very good and convenient!

ReviewingTheSituation · 22/01/2023 20:59

How hot do they get?
I like a HWB when I have a migraine, but it needs to be super hot.

fantasmasgoria1 · 22/01/2023 21:28

I googled them and you can get one from studio, b&q, Matalan etc

You're allowed to say amazon. You bought it from Amazon. This isnt the BBC. You dont need a disclaimer that other online retailers are also available
