We're going as a family for dinner tomorrow. Dss are adults and it can be expensive eating out. Can anyone recommend somewhere nice but not too expensive? TIA

uno’s on the Quayside. We love it! Sambuca is nearby and even more reasonable but nowhere near as nice.

What sort of budget counts as "not too expensive"? If you're around Jesmond, there's "Taste of Persia" on Osborne Road which is always excellent. (Another branch by the Centre for Life, too.)

Red Meze

Chilli Padi is amazing, near St James

MrsJBaptiste · 22/01/2023 14:13

Bloody Hell, is Uno's still there? We used to go as students - my mate worked there (25 years ago!) 😬

MrsJBaptiste - still going strong and DHs favourite from student days too! The DCs love it and it’s nice to go somewhere which isn’t part of a huge chain.

Pani's near the theatre royal is fab

Eat 4 Less in Northumberland St. Or go along the quayside to the Tyne Bar, The Kiln ( does food after 6pm) The Ship, even the Cluny if you like live music

CuriousMama · 22/01/2023 20:02

Thank you everyone. Ds1 lives there but I wanted to have some idea seen as I'll probably be paying. We went to a Japanese restaurant last time and it was a fortune.

I can't find that anywhere?

Was that Aveika? We always laugh as we go past as it looks glitzy to the point of intimidating. Friends say the food is great but I’m not sure that DS would currently stand up to the seemingly bougie dress code. And yes, £££

I really liked Dabbawal...such happy memories....

No. It wasn't glitzy. Think the bottle of Saki probably didn't help the price 🙈

The botanist is lovely and reasonable.

We ended up here www.mosobgezana.co.uk/
Never been anywhere like it. Really enjoyed it. Some dishes are very spicy. The flavours are amazing.

The Magic Hat. Pay as you feel. Open Friday evenings I think.
