Is there a posh UK version of butlins?

I do actually like Butlins before anyone comes for me! And recommend it.

But my parents in law want to go away with the kids. Due to their ill health it must be in the UK. Kids are older end of primary and somewhere with activities, a pool.

Have liked that Butlins had breakfast/dinner included, I'm thinking it would be better for everyone to get on if we weren't cooking etc.

Realise as I'm typing I'm probably talking of centre parcs but it's just never appealed, and I'm afraid it might encourage too much time stuck in the cabin?

Ideas welcome!

There's also Sandy Mouth in Cornwall which is nice if you get the massive caravan. Great views.

Meals aren't included but there's a restaurant

Crieff Hydro is amazing. Gorgeous setting in Perthshire,Spa, golf, lots of activities in the action Glen ( laser tag, high ropes, foot golf, horse riding).
Some packages include meals but self catering available too, movie nights, ceildhi, kids discos and shows, tennis...
they do several hours free childcare every day as well

We used to go to Butlins all the time and noticed a lot of elderly people went there as a couple, some may have been caravan owners I suppose.

I'd go to Butlins as usual but look at staying in the hotel or one of the accessible lodge things. It's a while since I've gone but a friend went recently and I'm sure one of them as big lodges around a lake which sounded lovely. I think it was the Bognor one.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 22/01/2023 11:11

It was the Minehead one.

Was coming here to say Potters. The in-laws always used to book it for the whole family and loved it.

kitsuneghost · 22/01/2023 11:18

If you like butlins then why not go to butlins?

ehb102 · 22/01/2023 11:20

An independent holiday camp like Potters? I went to the one in Lowestoft and was impressed by my room.

Well it's not exactly push but it's a good alternative, Potters Resort. It's all inclusive, the food is lovely and the drunks are v nice. Kids all had a great time, entertainment good on the whole although the compère was too 70's 'comedian' for my tastes.

I really want to go here, it sounds right up my street.
(I'm a very naice drunk)

If mobility is an issue, center parcs has an accessible minibus you can call to take you to and from your villa and between activities.

ExplodingCarrots · 22/01/2023 11:23

I'd recommend bluestone . But with your in laws ill health id recommended hiring a golf buggy as it's quite a hilly site . Loads of activities for all ages and a pool. Nice areas to explore locally.

Shamelessly placemarking. Also looking for similar.

SonnySideDown · 22/01/2023 11:27

Gwel an Mor in Cornwall is nice and has a lot of activities for the children. It has a restaurant but I don't think it offers the same dining as you would get at Butlins. And it's quite pricey I think.

PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2023 11:27

I have been drunk at Potters and I can confirm I am very nice. Grin

It’s pricey but works out great value just because of what’s included. The food is amazing and plentiful and the evening entertainment is really impressive - like a West End show. Loads for kids to do and I enjoyed the 1970s style host immensely.

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 22/01/2023 11:31

Yes the 70s style host Mark Brewer is very funny.

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 22/01/2023 11:31

In fact all the staff and very friendly and professional.

MajesticWhine · 22/01/2023 11:36

I went to the Hoseasons in Cheddar Gorge and it was pretty nice.

I know you said you didn't like CP but I think a lot of people underestimate just how much there is to do there, to suit everyone. You don't have to spend the whole time in your lodge, nor do you have to be going from one activity to the other with no break. There is a happy medium wherever you choose to place it.

We always holidayed there with my grandparents when I was younger. My brother and I would go to the pool every day, and my grandparents would have a walk round the lake, stopping for a coffee, or go up to the sports plaza for a drink as they liked the atmosphere in there.

There are plenty of places for meals out to spend time together each day, plus good facilities if you'd prefer to eat at home/takeout, or BBQ.

Yeah, there are LOADS of activities you can do, but there is no pressure to do all of those if you'd rather make the most of the pool for the majority of the time.

DurhamDurham · 22/01/2023 11:49

The drunks are very nice’ 🤣😂

sorry, know it’s a typo and I do loads but this cheered me up after a tough week so thanks @DurhamDurham 😊😊

Haha didn't notice the typo until you did! 😆 I can confirm that the drinks were tasty and the drunks were friendly 🤣

Blort · 22/01/2023 16:23

Thank you so much everyone. I'm definitely looking for a place with the naice drunks haha!

Parents in law are paying, with generous budget for those asking price range. Reason why no Butlins is because PIL want somewhere a bit more high end.

Potters looks great and I like the hotel accomodation, will be easier than sharing a chalet.

Why no Center Parcs? I haven't been - but I liked the freedom of Butlins activities - you could come and go for a lot of them rather than book on. Our children have mild SEN so flexibility is helpful. I think as well when you're paying for everything out of pocket everything feels more like a judgement to make - compared to an "all in" price.

woolley grange style hotels?

Ursula82 · 22/01/2023 16:27

One person’s “generous budget” is another persons “very tight and limited budget” and another persons “wow OMG that’s an incredible budget”

😂

MyDogStoodOnABee · 22/01/2023 16:27

The manor or ashbury in Devon

Happy to entertain all ideas, even if only to nosey how the other half live!

As far as I'm aware budget is no option for the right holiday, apart from maybe a suite at Claridges!
