What to do with grandparents' china?

My DH was given his GPs china many years ago. We've never used it because it can't go in the dishwasher. We want to sell it to make some space; it takes up a whole cupboard. It's not very valuable, might be worth a few hundred. Does anybody know how to sell china? Don't really want to eBay it. Thanks. It's Rosenthal Bettina.

Auction house?

PacificallyRequested · 22/01/2023 00:00

I buy a fair bit of vintage china, and I usually look on eBay or Etsy, sorry that's probably not what you want to hear. But you could look and see if there are any shops or dealers on there you could contact to see if they'd buy it from you.

We have 7 avacado dishes. I never even knew they were a thing.

I wouldn’t post it as it will be stressful if anything is broken in transit.

Cash on collection only or an auction house as already mentioned.

Are there auction houses specifically for china?

If you can’t be arsed to use eBay, I’d just give it to a charity shop.

Getabloominmoveon · 22/01/2023 01:16

A quick Google shows the value of this china which is not huge. Auction houses charge a hefty sales fee, so your only option is online. Or - if you aren’t desperate for £100 - donate to a charity shop as a pp suggests.

You could try gumtree as that's often local pick up but it's a general free ads site not specifically for china or vintage stuff so might get spotted.

2023bebetter · 22/01/2023 06:36

Try eBay first or local FB site's if you can get 100 that's lucky.

Otherwise perhaps local brick a braxk shop's?

Most China ends up in charity's shops which is why we use ours!

It’s also got a metallic edge so can’t be microwaved.
stick it in the cellar for ten years by then these sets might be rare and worth something.

Use an auction house. They sell every thing. Although they charge you to sell it, the scope of their buyers is high so it would do better than Facebook or gumtree. Link to list of auction houses

Auction it. What area are you? We sold some china through a local auction house. Only got about £30 for it though.

We have the same problem. A very beautiful Royal Doulton complete dinner sevice.
I did try Chinasearch ( I have bought from them in the past) but they weren’t interested in buying.
The two teasets are going to charity shops but for the time being I have packed the dinner service up.
We also have 8 or 9 pieces of Lladro ( including two table lamps) but I have found an auction house that specialises in that and must contact them.
Its such a shame that we don’t want them but I console myself that they bought her joy at the time of purchase.

Thanks for the suggestion of China search - I've registered it with them.
