Alexa Spotify wars... can you help?

We have various Alexas which we mainly use for listening to music and which are all on my Amazon account and my App.

I have upgraded to a family Spotify account to stop my recommendations being populated by the crap that DS10 listens to but we can't work out how to get HIS Alexa to use HIS Spotify.....

Plus if I'm out on a run and using my Spotify then DH listens to something in the kitchen then I lose my running mix.

Any advice??

Does he have a phone/tablet etc?
The only way to do it is to play Spotify on a, device which you then connect to Alexa (just say "alexa Spotify connect") abs then choose that device from the list on the Spotify app.

Can’t help with the Alexa issue but if you have the premium plan (not familiar with other plans)You can download your playlist to phone and then go ‘offline’ when out for a run. It will play from your phone rather than the network so you won’t be disconnected.

How do you lose your mix?
we have family so all have our own log in so aI listen logged in as me, dh,dd etc all have their own log in. I had to send them an invite as the main account is mine. So unless dh is logged in as you that shouldn’t happen.

For Alexa I use my phone to listen to Spotify because I’m logged in as me. Dd uses her phone and her Spotify. If your ds was using your device he needs to be logged into Spotify as him and connected to Alexa to listen to his music.

if any of that makes sense.

The Spotify is not IN the Alexa it is working like a Bluetooth speaker so it will play whatever is playing on the device that is linked to it at the time.

We had the same problem. We have a Spotify Family accounts with four individual accounts. Both the kids have their own alexas that they play Spotify through.

We got round it by setting the kids up with their own Amazon accounts and connecting them to their Alexas. Their Amazon accounts don't have any card details associated with them, so they can't buy anything. We then linked their individual Spotify accounts to their Amazon accounts. Works a treat and our Spotify accounts are uninterrupted with their rubbish!

Can anyone explain (in very small words, preferably with bullet points) how you get one dot (the one in the kitchen) to recognize more than one Spotify account?
We have a family Spotify account with 5 IDs. There are 4 of us. Alexa only recognises my Spotify account so I also get my music stolen whilst driving to work.

It's most difficult for D's who doesn't have a phone or a tablet but wants access to music. The others could connect their phones. But obviously it's easier to just ask for music.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 21/01/2023 09:00

Seems to be some misunderstanding here.

Alexa is connected to someone's amazon account, and if you've connected it to Spotify it is connected to that Spotify account. You can't connect it to 2 Spotify accounts. So all the Alexas in my house are connected to my Amazon and my Spotify.

If you say "Alexa, play James Arthur' she plays it from my account, and if I'm already listening to Spotify on my phone/ another device the music changes.

So you need to get the Spotify app on your device and log that into the individual Spotify account (DS1s phone is logged into his Spotify, DS2s logged into his etc)
Say " Alexa, Spotify connect" (you should only have to do this the first time. Then select that alexa from the list on Spotify. (I'll make a screenshot in a min)

Click on the green thing I've circled (it might not be green if its not connected)
It will bring up all the connected Alexas/speakers. Click the one you want.

Or you can put each Alexa on its own Amazon account, but then they aren't connected to each other.

I have this problem when I'm driving to work too. If anyone tries to use the Alexa at home, it takes my music away. I'm listening to my Spotify in a Bluetooth speaker in the car.

The Alexa is registered to my Spotify account. I have the Alexa app on my phone. The Spotify account is a family account and everyone has their own account under that.

Everyone else has to blutooth connect to the Alexa to play their music on it, whereas I don't. It's just there in my devices menu.

We have tried so many things to sort it out!
