Can’t chew.. what to eat?

I’ve got a lot of orthodontic work done today and cannot for the life of me chew anything. I’ve had the obvious soup for dinner but I need other ideas for slightly softer foods. It is likely I will be unable to chew for a few weeks!

I cannot even look at any rice puddings. Cream and heavy dairy are out due to an IBD. I suppose just mash all the veg and add gravy is my best bet but if anyone has any go to ideas for the slightly softer but not total mush diet please share.

Look in the baby aisle 😂biscuits and crispy thing are made to dissolve. Fruit pouches.

Pot noodles and noodle cup thingies. Ravioli, spaghetti, basically soft pasta, noodles or rice.

Bought them for DH when he had his jaw wired.

Anything that can be swallowed whole really

You could do a very ‘wet’ risotto, or a stew with the meat left in long enough to completely fall apart, with mashed potatoes alongside?

Aldi do lots of protein yogurts and protein shakes which will be good for you.

avamiah · 20/01/2023 21:34

i was going to recommend scrambled eggs to you or soft noodles.

Cottage pie?
Fish pie?
Pasta and sauce with small pasta shapes such as macaroni?

Oh yes great choice, I totally forgot about them .

Brilliant. Thank you. I forgot about spaghetti in a tin. I love the stuff. Protein yogurt currently being consumed. Such good ideas here, much appreciated.

Had some serious dental work done and a huge bowl of porridge in the morning was good as it meant I didn't have to eat all day. Also the warmth was rather soothing, which was odd as I would have though cool would be better intuitively.

I made it with water rather than milk. Pasta was fine and Chips and gravy!

GlassBunion · 20/01/2023 22:23

My mum can't chew but she can cope with'Little Dish ' and 'Annabel Karmel' ready meals for toddlers , eg fish pie, spaghetti bolognaise, chicken curry etc...

MuggleMe · 20/01/2023 22:25

I slow cooked a chicken casserole for after wisdom tooth. Chicken practically disintegrated and carrots etc very soft.

Quinque · 20/01/2023 22:30

Dahl is easy to eat, or a chick pea tagine with couscous. Fruit smoothies.

onyttig · 20/01/2023 22:33

Congee/juk. Make it wet and let the rice really break down. You can make loads of different flavours.

hugoagogo · 20/01/2023 22:39

When ds had braces, I always stocked up on weetabix drinks, and instant semolina also made him cheesey mash and tinned ravioli.

Thank you all.
