My dd is looking at this for the summer. I really want her to do it but worried she’s never really been away from home for more than a week. I Wouk find love to hear the experiences of other young people and how they got on

My dh did it 20 years ago and had a blast. He's quite a confident, capable person though. Is it just that she's not been away from home much or is she not very experienced with meeting new people, getting on with practical tasks etc? I think it helps if you like the outdoors or have a skill you can teach the kids.

What type of job does she want…there is a lot of variety and it depends on if she picks a job she is suited to. As an organization, I think they are pretty good..they have been going for a long time and although they charge quite a whack, they handle all the paperwork for the visas etc

I did it 20 years ago and really enjoyed it. It was very well organised and ran smoothly.
It's cheaper to sort everything out yourself but I guess you're paying for this safety net.

Bith my daughter and son did it , I don’t know exactly how it works but he went as a life guard but was also assigned a group of children he had to make sure were up dressed and out for breakfast , turn in evening that they we all fed , pjs and showered etc , I don’t know if that is usual tho
ny daughter didn’t get a group allocated to her , but she dealt with parent enquiries mainly in an office although she did have some interaction with the children

I think it depends I. Your child’s personality, daughter loved it , son was glad to come home .

it was about 12 yrs ago so not sure if their experience was / is typical

I did Work America 20 plus years ago. I had never been away from home more than 4 days. I was fine, it was a wonderful opportunity

My uni housemates did it 20 years ago, by their accounts, make sure she takes condoms!

I went to two different summer camps but with Camp Leaders. Best summers of my life and I would highly recommend …it is hard graft though, long days and limited time off, so warn her about that 🙂

DSS and DSD aren't old enough yet, but I did it and it was amazing! I loved it, and have worked abroad in different capacities since and I think it sparked that confidence to have a go on my own.

my nephew did it twice and absolutely loved it.

Both my DDs did Work America and loved it. My DD 2 is a fairly quiet young woman but she really enjoyed her experience.

I did Camp Leaders 10 years ago, 4 summers in a row. Best thing I ever did. I still speak to my bump friends and am going back for my camps anniversary soon.
