Extreme Sore lips!

Tried all the balms and so on and they were fine yesterday but today they are on fire.

They are dry and sore and the skin around them is too now. Can steroid help? Fucidin? Antifungal?

What can I do to moisture them as nothing work.

Is there a prescription strength lip balm!

I have very dry skin on my face to that is under control at the moment. I use eucerin ato control and hydro cortisone or locoid cream when it's bad . The locoid cream isn't prescribed for my face but it's the only thing that works but I'm Not sure I'm suppose I'm to use it on my face? It's the best thing tho and one dose sorts out my reactive skin (fine to fire overnight too)

Well , the Blistex is shit now as it's a different formula and doesn't burn off that dead layer of skin like it used to . Yet to find anything that works well.... might try Bepanthen or nipple cream as Ive not been diwn that route.

I get really sore dry swollen lips and have tried lots of things over the years! Finally found a solution - regular, unscented face moisturiser THEN normal, plain Vaseline on top. Apparently Vaseline doesn’t add moisture to your lips but traps in the existing moisture and protects from wind etc so moisturising first is the key first step

Lanolin works best for me (yes, the nipple cream!)

I used to get really sore lips as a child. First sign of trouble and I'd lick and lick until the whole area was sore.

Zinc and caster oil cream was my miracle cream.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream or Sisley Lip Balm - the latter is a bit pricey but lasts ages.

Terryscombover · 23/01/2023 08:31

Bepanthan is the dogs bollocks for sore lips. It never ever smarts or burns. Glad it's resolving though. I'm a martyr to sore lips in winter and use bepanthan morning and evening.

Also try changing your toothpaste. My son used to get terrible sore lips but sorted with change of toothpaste. I switched to Oral B. Some toothpastes have harsh surfactants

Same thing happened to me. Tried all of the suggested products, spent an absolute fortune. Ended up mentioning it to the doctor at an appointment for something else. Prescribed antibiotic cream and a day later they were completely healed.

I suffer from this since the menopause. I get Protopic from gp.

This level of dryness doesn’t really respond to otc lip salve l find.

ModerationInEverything · 23/01/2023 09:04

DD has a similar problem, but only in the winter. What worked for her was a vitamin D supplement. If she misses a couple of days they start to get sore again.

Aljb02 · 23/01/2023 09:14

I’ve been using aldi’s own paw paw cream. It’s amazing!!

CalistoNoSolo · 23/01/2023 09:41

I'm allergic to beeswax (which is in an awful lot of balms - look out for ceres alba) which gave me such bad perioral dermatitis I needed antibiotics to shift it. I stick to all natural products now and for lip balm I use pure shea butter. It's cheap as chips and can be used anywhere on your face or body.

That blistex relief is full of ingredients I would
put nowhere near inflamed painful skin! Peppermint oil fgs.

OP I would discuss with pharmacist re short course of HC cream. I would be putting nothing else on them apart from a simple
emollient (Vaseline).

QueenMabs · 23/01/2023 15:12

Thanks everyone the blistex cherry moisturiser was really good.

I alder had the o keefes overnight and Nivea lip balm!

I also also used the hydrocortisone cream for in application to reduce the redness

Interesting re blistex - will remember that.

But FYI in case you still are interested - Labello (buy on Amazon) is excellent and when lips really bad, by the Labello Med version.

Also, I put bio oil around my children's mouths (not on the main lips) (also under their noses when they have a cold and on DS' hands as they crack from the cold). I do it when they're sleeping as it can be an uncomfortable sensation. Incredibly effective.

Binfire · 26/01/2023 08:22

If anyone is looking for the original formula Blistex intensive cream they often sell it in Home Bargains and B&M. I haven’t seen it anywhere else for years.
