NHS Jobs website really is sh*te, isn't it?

I really can't believe a huge, national organisation like the NHS uses a beta version for its front end recruitment.

Why should there even NEED to be YouTube videos and 'how to' guides? Why isn't the site intuitive enough that you shouldn't need them?

Why doesn't 'log in' actually log you in, but fails to respond, so you click it again. And wait. Then again. Til, lo! 'You have failed to log in correctly more than 5 times since you created this account therefore are locked out for 20 mins'. And repeat.

And bear in mind, a search like 'Occupational Therapy' and 'Southampton' won't necessarily yield an Occupational Therapist position in Southampton; even though you know it's there.

I've had to contact them every time I use it. And I am quite tech savvy.

It's maddening but probably par for the course for the rubbish state of NHS IT.

Rant over.

Yes!

If I search under my health board for a certain band it says there are no vacancies but, if I take the band away, it lists loads!
It can’t find me jobs anywhere on the planet if I do it by job title 🙄

JammiDodgers · 20/01/2023 18:57

Fucking shockingly bad.
Agree op.

Pisses me off to the point that I give up.

It's an introduction into what its like to work in the nhs. Clunky and disjointed.

Yup. Honestly, I'm close to giving up. Is your application on the beta-site; or has it been moved to the new one? In which case the only way you'll know is because you can't access your application on the beta site. And will get locked out, trying. Thus can't access the new site. As you can't log in. Aaaand- tech support is 9-5, Mon-Fri.

But here's a link to our YouTube videos telling you how to export your application into our new site! (Given that our software can't do it, because it's sh*te).

The old one was really good. You could search by area, job type, heck even random keyword really easily. You could save your previous applications without much difficulty and the personal statement bit didn't time out after five minutes like the clunky new one.

About a year or so ago the new one was introduced. It is truly rubbish and I suspect will result in even more people just giving up on their applications, if it hasn't already. I am sure HR absolutely love it though.

Might make a nice article for a journalist, the effect on NHS applications of the new monstrosity if, ooh, an FoI question were involved, say...

cheshirecatssmile · 20/01/2023 20:07

I hate trac.
Puts people off applying as computer says no!

So, so true.

Avrenim · 20/01/2023 20:11

PS next time I look to move Trust I'm just going to look for jobs via indeed, who strangely enough do have working software. I've also learned from bitter experience to save any personal statements in word first, edit them there, then copy across.

Wholeheartedly agree with the previous poster who said the NHS jobs website pretty much prepares you for how clunky the NHS is at most Trusts though especially when it comes to computers.....

Nugg · 20/01/2023 20:12

I've worked for the NHS for 25 years and I always use www.healthjobsuk.com

Abso- fuckin-lutely

Catoneverychair · 20/01/2023 21:14

Do you mean the trac system?

MadamMaltesers · 20/01/2023 21:16

So odd, I just finished applying for a job on the trac system and thought I'd checkout Mumsnet chat and the 1st thread was this.

Fordian · 20/01/2023 21:36

What is the 'trac system'?

OP posts:
Catoneverychair · 21/01/2023 07:31

I believe nhs jobs moved over to 'trac' for applications. Replacing the nhs jobs website.

VioletCharlotte · 21/01/2023 08:02

It's a test to see if you're prepared to put up with our clunky, archaic systems Smile

DarkForces · 21/01/2023 08:10

I work in the NHS. If you can't survive Trac it's not the place for you. I've been trying to buy something for 2 months now...for £25...that's been approved by our department lead (and no I can't just get it and claim in expenses. That's not allowed 🙀)

AnotherNameChangeYes · 21/01/2023 08:21

I can search a for a job knowing it exists, for it not to appear.

Fordian · 21/01/2023 14:14

I'm glad it's not just me!

OP posts:
FangedFrisbee · 21/01/2023 14:17

@Fordian this website is how you apply for a job in the nhs

www.healthjobsuk.com

Changeychang · 07/07/2023 07:36

Left feedback on the beta website today. First time I've ever done that. It's such a massive downgrade, so frustrating.

rubbishatballet · 08/07/2023 09:09

Sorry, I know this is a bit of an old thread but need somewhere to rant.

I now don't receive any email job alerts from either the old system or the new one and cannot for the life of me see how I set this up in the new one (I have emailed them but not getting my hopes up for a helpful response...). I HATE not being able to see the roles that are being advertised in my area as whilst I'm not actively looking right now and don't want to be searching the website each day, if the right thing happened to come up then I wouldn't want to miss it. That's how I normally end up changing role!

No wonder recruitment is such a shitshow - presumably loads of potential candidates aren't even seeing the ads.

Right, rant over, and breathe...
