Zeppelins over Lincoln in 1914 quite possible? They devastated Kings Lynn about then, iirc.

DH has a load of European postcards sent by his GG-grandfather to G-grandmother in ~1910. Those postcards are collector items now.

Such a pity these little treasures have been largely lost from our own society just over a hundred years on and replaced by texts, emails and social media posts.

ChocChipOwl · 20/01/2023 16:23

Thanks SO much guys! Think we've pretty much got it between us

I wonder if it was the zeppelin?

I bought the postcard on eBay as I live in the very small village it was sent to. And I'm curious because 2 North View cottages doesn't seem to exist - so has it been renamed? I'll sleuth more

For anyone interested in their own village or town or wherever really, just go to eBay and put in 'postcard + village name' and you never know!

I'd like to know who Mrs Bedingfield was - the recipient of the postcard.

It's just a fun little hobby I suppose! And cheap. Postcard was 2 quid

You could always look up the 1911 census and parish registers then go from there

DobbyTheHouseElk · 20/01/2023 16:28

I’ve got some fabulous postcards. It’s a lovely bit of social history. Love reading them. In lockdown my friend and I had a great time reading them. Every few days I sent her another photo of a postcard. Really got us thinking about the people and what happened to them.

ChocChipOwl · 20/01/2023 16:31

Weirdly, she says it's cold enough for snow and bitter and bright

Proof of global warming Grin
