Will it be okay for food wrapped in tin foil to go in checked in luggage on plane?

Does anyone know? A quick google makes me think the foil will be okay but then I’m also reading the foil will show as a dark blob and the contents will need to be checked. So who knows! Wondering whether anyone has sent foodstuffs wrapped in foil, within UK, and not had issues.

Thanks.

Just wrap it in cling instead. It might show as hard to xray and then they will open your bag and double check it. If you have gone to the trouble of making and wrapping food to check in, the last thing you want is someone opening it with dirty hands

Where are you flying to and from and what is the food?

Depends on the country and the food.

As others have said it depends on the food and where you are going to.

I have plenty of time from an eu country to uk.

You can’t put food in foil in checked in luggage. It will show on X-ray and be opened. It will be flagged up at your destination as well. There’s signs at the airport about food being taken out of the country, usually no meat, fruits etc You can buy stuff in departures and take in hand luggage.

Why would you do that?

Titsywoo · 19/01/2023 20:41

My husband did it with some pizza from New York 😄

Loads of countries don't allow loads of foods.

Why foil? Why not put it in Tupperware to protect it properly? The biggest issue though is whether it’s ok to import whatever it is to wherever you’re going.

Thank you! Will re-wrap in cling though it’s flapjacks so hope they won’t go soft. Why would I want to do that? Because my dc is going back to Uni and it’s a home baked treat.
