Income tax query

I started a new job (28,000 per annum) at the end of November 2022 so I have had 2 pay days, 22/12/22 and 22/01/23. Before this I earned £1193 only from a small job from April 2022 to the start of this job. I didn't pay anything on this, I think because it was so low.

Why am I not paying income tax? I have deductions for pension, student loan and NI but zero for tax.

Check with payroll? HR?

The NI threshold is weekly, pension is monthly and student loan depends on the plan - income tax, however, is yearly.

That might be the explanation; you simply haven’t earned enough yet to go over the personal allowance and they’re not going to charge you tax until they’re sure you will.

Because you total pay to date this tax year hasn't yet exceeded your accumulated tax free allowance.

You are not likely to pay any tax this year as you probably won't have earned over £12570 by 5 April.

28000 is 2333 per month. You will be working 4 months for the tax year. Plus the money you aren't before means you are under the £12570 tax. You will pay a small amount if national insurance and from April you will start to be taxed.
