Mini utility space. 2m x 90cm Any space saving ideas?

I have a small, small room with window. 2m long x 90cm.

I have water access to there and would like to put in a washer and dryer.

I'm thinking it's best to get a stacking kit to create space.

But I would like some shelving for washing baskets maybe or some folding space?

Any ideas?

I've just measured our utility room and it's a bit bigger than yours, 230 cm by 100, but the door is in the middle of the long wall, rather than the short wall.
How much wall space is there behind the door; could you put a narrow work surface down that wall to fold stuff on if you're desperate to have a dedicated space to fold stuff?
We've got a pull out washing line in there, an oil filled radiator on the wall that's handy for drying stuff, they kick out a lot of heat. We have 2 double wall cupboards for washing powder and lightbulbs and general shit plus a base unit that we keep the dirty clothes wash basket in, you might not have the room or desire to have a base cupboard next to the washing machine but it's a space to put the wash basket.
I wanted coat hooks on the wall to put the empty "clean washing" baskets on,for a variety of reasons we couldn't but along your right hand wall you could have a long rack of hooks to put the baskets on. You can also get brackets to put on the wall to put ironing boards on, keeps it out the way, perhaps on the wall next to the door?

A pulley airer on the ceiling and hooks and those grab brackets on the wall for broom, mop etc so it is all neatly tucked in the side and you don't have to fall over it to get to the washer!

I probably wouldn't bother with shelves as it will narrow the space further. A small unit next to the washer for washing powder etc so it is at hand

Mine is a very similar size. At the moment it has the washer under the window and our boiler is on the right hand wall above the washer. We have 2 pressure mounted rails across the width which we use to gang washing and the ironing board is folded up next to the washer. Our dryer is currently in the garage.

our plan is to combine the utility and same sized downstairs toilet that is next door, block the doorway in the current utility and stack the washer and dryer there then have a sink and toilet.

Like this. Gives a flat surface for folding. The rail could just go across the window.

I’ll be very envious! It’s so simple and practical.

I wish I could get the washer and dryer side by side with the countertop over.

Out stacking kit has a pull out shelf between the appliances that you can use for folding. Not the most elegant or large shelving solution, but it is useful.

Ifailed · 20/01/2023 08:03

A couple of points: If you go for stacking the appliances, make sure they are stackable, not all are. Also make sure you can fully open the doors, it can be pain if they are right up against the wall.
My condenser drying has the option to diver the water into the same drain as used by the washing machine, therefore you don't have to empty the container.
Make sure you can reach the window to open it, even in the winter with the door closed you can send a lot of potential condensation outside without the need for a fan or dehumidifier .

If you have 90cm width you should be able to. With 30cm spare!

The washer and dryer are 69cm wide. That's 120cm next to each other. The small wall is only 90cm wide.

If I put them next to each other on the longe wall there's only 30cm in front of them and I won't be able to open the door or manoeuvre to get things in.

Sorry 60cm wide each.

I've just fitted an IKEA Enhet kitchen, the shallow cupboards and metal shelving units are very flexible: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/enhet-storage-combina<a class="break-all" href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=470X756&isjs=1&jv=15.3.0-stackpath&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mumsnet.com%2Ftalk%2F_chat%2F4723858-mini-utility-space-2m-x-90cm-any-space-saving-ideas%3Fpage%3D2&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ikea.com%2Fgb%2Fen%2Fp%2Fenhet-storage-combination-anthracite-white-frame-s69331502%2F%23content&xs=1&xtz=0&xuuid=c20251e36e57c3c6e8a995d160e53937&xjsf=other_click__touchstart%20%5B%5D&cci=b15732cbdc2ea0e02aa1695e7d361c3b" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">IKEA laundry options

@DonNotKeith I was looking at those, some options look good!

Something like this. If you don't need the sink the space taken up by the sink could hold a shelf or storage.

Stack appliances. Have an airer so when you hang a load up and have the dryer on the hot air drys the load hung up so two loads for the price of one.

The stacking kit from Argos has a pull out shelf between to put washing basket (or blue Ikea bag) on.

Ah that’s a shame! I checked mine and they were 60 wide so I thought it was standard

Oh my maths is out😱

desireep · 25/01/2023 10:57

If you don't have the appliances yet (or can buy new ones), www.furnitureferret.com/uk/c/washer-dryers lists washer dryers by size so you can choose a small one (obv combined saves space but less good for drying than a tumble dryer). They have washing machines and separate dryers as well. Hope it helps!
