Tax Credits and 30 hours childcare

Advice please if anyone knows.

We've just applied for 30 hours childcare from Easter for my boys. They're currently in 15 hours and I'll have to pay for the extra few hours a week outside the 30 hours

DH works. I don't. I get tax credits for three kids and carers allowance.

I can't claim for tax free child care without giving up tax credits so that's fine.

It also says depending on how much of the 30 hours I use, I'll have deductions from my tax credits to cover the cost.

Thing is it's a school nursery so I have no concept of what those 15 hours per child would look like to know how much they'll deduct.

They won't deduct until they start after Easter so no way of just checking my account.

Does anyone know what they're likely to deduct or how to find out?

You won't get 30 free hours unless you both earn a minimum of 16 hours per week at minimum wage.... that's my understanding anyway. I think you only get 15 hours if one parent doesn't work...

Sorry, I missed that you get carer's allowance. Maybe you will be eligible for the 30 free boys then. Sorry op. You may want to Google 30 free hours and check the gov website for eligibility criteria.

*hours (not boys)! 🙈🤣

If you are not currently working
You may still be eligible if your partner is working, and you get Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Limited Capability for Work Benefit or contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance

Gov.uk site re eligibility if not working.

We qualify, I have given the school their codes today.

It's how much tax credits get deducted that I'm enquiring about, I can't find that. I've only put in our work situ because I'm not earning extra by their being in nursery so it's just a straight loss

Can you clarify what you mean by this?

Presumably they do either 2.5 days at school nursery or 5 half days currently.

That'll just go to five full school days - 9-3 or thereabouts.

So it's saying I'll had a deduction taken from my tax credits to cover the extra 15 hours childcare if I take 30 hours.

If it was private nursery and I knew it cost £100 a day or £15 an hour I would know how much they were deducting.

Because its school, I don't know what the "cost" is

Do you claim the childcare element of tax credits at all? When you fill in your tax credits claim, do you have to put in an amount you pay for childcare? It's usually based around that.

Bear in mind as well everyone on Tax credits will be pushed over to universal credit by next year.

No, we've never claimed childcare element as DS Is in full time school and the twins started their free 15 hours this month so they don't go into any childcare

SleepingStandingUp · 19/01/2023 15:59

Yeah I'd seen even us outliers will be UC'd. Dreading it as DH is paid weekly and I've heard that means it'll stop every time he has 5 Mondays in a week and I'll have to renew it all so they'll away without paying up some months

Mummysgonetobed · 19/01/2023 16:17

The funding rate that your nursery receives depends on your area. I’m Yorkshire and mine is £4.53/hour.

Ah OK, we're Midlands, not the posh bit lol
