Things you absolutely have to do when ill in bed

Yesterday I felt too ill to eat, sleep or watch anything and DH had to help me put my socks on as well as do pretty much everything else with the kids. I tossed and turned in bed all night and finally dozed off about 5.00am.
Today I'm still feeling terrible and in bed BUT I can just about focus on watching something, so I've put on the latest series of the Batchelor for the perfect trashy, I don't have to think about it viewing.
I'm also eating grapes and I managed a cup of tea.
What I also think is when you feel this bad, you still have Mum guilt but I know 100% I couldn't parent today, so I try to let that go - and having a good DH helps (absolute shout out to all the single parents)
What are your 'I'm too ill to get out of bed' essentials?

My DH always says he knows when I'm very unwell as I sleep in pjs and a dressing gown. I don't do anything else, just sleep.

Allegri's Miserere played quietly.
Baxter's Country Garden soup. My essentials for a day in bed.

Exactly

and of course it is relevant! 😂

Yeah it's about the most relevantish of all things relevant.

Not really. The op was about what other people like to do when they’re ill in bed, not whether she was unreasonable to be in bed. Not the OP’s fault the thread got derailed by the competitively ‘well’.

Don't be daft.

Eh? How on earth is the OP’s underlying medical condition relevant to a post which asks what people like to do while they’re ill in bed?

VincaBlue · 19/01/2023 17:59

I bet the competitively healthy were playing singles tennis within an hour of giving birth too.

caringcarer · 19/01/2023 18:06

Ribena and chicken soup. It what my mum used to give me.

@ShowOfHands or maybe you just like getting up.

I secretly enjoy having a cold that's awful but not awful enough to prevent me enjoying cheese toasties and lying in bed all day 😂

I don't like lying in bed, as I said in my post so even at my most unwell, I've always got up. I've, fortunately, never experienced what other people describe ie being so ill I physically can't leave the bed.

I think a lot of what's being seen as competitively well, is people genuinely not realising that being so ill you can't get out of bed and need somebody to dress you, is apparently common. I assumed it was a total rarity. It's like finding out people stand up to wipe. I had NO idea.

I am surprised and now, grateful. I'm exceedingly lucky.

The OP has an auto immune disorder so totally wiped out by viruses so therefore it's not unusual for her dh to have to dress her.

Of course it's not normal otherwise (the having to be dressed)

grayhairdontcare · 19/01/2023 19:00

A bottle of Lucozade.
Butternut squash and chilli soup
Game of Thrones

verdantverdure · 20/01/2023 11:48

I like to lay in the middle of the bed and fold the sides of the duvet under so my arms and legs have extra cushioning. Smile

verdantverdure · 20/01/2023 11:52

The last two funerals I went to were for people who had "never been ill a day in their lives before this."

Even if we're lucky enough never to suffer from anything serious enough to put us to bed, something's going to put all of us in the ground one day.

Well yes. I don't think being SO FAR lucky enough not to ever need to stay in bed when ill actually makes me immortal 🙃
