PlP, tax credit and working

Gp has advised to apply for PIP. I already receive child/tax credit and work 28 hours a week.

before I apply I want to know if I am able to apply whilst working and will it affect my tax credit. I can’t see anything on line.

PIP is a none means tested benefit. You can work and claim PIP. Depending upon what you are awarded it might be worth looking at a benefit calculator as there are disability premiums in UC you might trigger once PIP has been awarded

The only thing to consider is whether the reason you’re applying for PIP would be contradicted by the job you do - so, if applying as you have health problems that affect your ability to walk and manage personal care/housework/cooking, do you work as a cleaner or care worker.

This. They absolutely will use the fact that you work to try to counter anything you tell them. That said literally thousands of people claim PIP and work so it really is down to your specific circumstances. One woman I know was told because she worked until recently she didn't meet one of the criteria as it showed she was able to do unfamiliar journeys. Except she was a bus driver who did a very specific trained route. She gave up work because she wasn't managing - she appealed and won her case, but pre kept any possible contradictions and write then in the application. So 'I cannot do x, despite being able to do y as these are similar but different activities blah blah blah'.

Look up the criteria and see which ones you think you meet, where you may be scored, then try to evidence each one. Remember the GP advising you claim isn't a specialist when it comes the the DWP - get as much info from forums etc as you can, there are lots of specialist forums for various conditions too.

Good advice to look up criteria then see what evidence you have. As your GP advised you to claim you could ask for a letter stating your functional issues. You will have to pay for letter. I paid £10 for mine. My issue is mostly mobility and I got a letter from my GP stating results of back scan and that I tried to use a walker but often had to use wheelchair when pain was bad and that my condition was progressive and I struggled to walk 20 metres. I got awarded 12 points for mobility but I could work if doing something like a admin type desk job.

@Nightimeer how did you get on? X

Starrrz · 15/01/2024 22:06

@LovedFedAndNoonesDead so how does it work, will they write to my gp and my work and ask for evidence? X

unicornsarereal72 · 17/01/2024 02:11

I wouldn't be paying for GP report. You can list 3 professionals who are involved In Your care they will be approached for Information.

@unicornsarereal72 ok thankyou , as dont want to be the gossip of work. Xx

I get PIP and working tax credits. PIP is worth about £9k a year, and I get the disability and severe disability element of tax credits worth over £5k a year. So for me I always get consultant and GP letters, as the cost is small compared to what I could lose. They don't always get evidence from professionals.

Nightimeer · 29/01/2024 19:58

@Starrrz I got awarded pip. My work place don’t know but i did let the advisor on my assessment know about adjustments have that been made by work. Have you applied
