Anything that can be done to reduce period flow in young girl?

My daughter is eleven and started her period last summer. Thankfully, she doesn't get cramps or anything. But she has a very heavy flow. She has bled through to her clothes a number of times now. She's using period pants. And sometimes pads. She is getting them every 20 days at the moment too.. I have her on vitamins, etc.

Clearly she is too young for any sort of hormonal pill. But is there anything else she could take that would reduce it a bit? Thanks.

Tranexamic acid will help. See your GP, she shouldn’t have to put up with that, poor lovely.

Transexamic Acid from the GP. I use this as I’ve started getting heavy flow as I’m in perimenopause and it’s really good. Don’t let the GP fob you off as she should not have to put up with this.

There was an episode of Crowd Science on the World Service a while back that said ibuprofen reduces flow. My DD takes it as soon as her period starts (then continues to take it at appropriate intervals for the pain) and she thinks it reduces the flow, although she wasn't very heavy in the first place.

Is she taking extra iron? Chelated iron is easier to digest.
And yes to ibuprofen.
Get this, your lower intestines lie behind your uterus, so as the hormones change with your cycle, that's why it affects your guts. Ibuprofen the day of starting period really helps me.

Thanks very much for those responses... I'll look into both suggestions for ibuprofen and transexamic acid.

If she is that bad then take her to the GP. My dd was like that except hers started aged 13. Mefanamic acid and tranexamic acid did not work for her. The pill gave her mood swings. She was eventually diagnosed with adenomyosis aged 21 and has had to have a coil fitted.

My eldest daughter had this problem, she started her periods at 10.5 she ended up very anaemic, tried the pill but she gained weight, at 15 she took herself off to the GP for the coil, there's a smaller one for young women and she's just had it replaced with a regular merina coil at 17, she can keep this one for five years, the previous one was for two years
