How to show support to teachers strikes

I am very keen to show support to the teachers at my children's school who will be going on strike (this is not another thread about whether it's right or wrong, please don't debate that).

What's the best way? Obviously if my children's class teachers aren't in, it's simple. They stay home with me. What if there is a picket line? Am I crossing it if I take my kids to school that day (if their class teacher is in)?

Im happy to keep one/none/all off, but I really want to show those striking that I support them so would be interested in the best way to do that.

Thanks

Vote Labour! Or at least not Tory. Honestly that is the only way to support teachers and everyone else who needs to strike due to the fucking disgraceful cuts and working conditions.

@Ostryga I definitely do already despite living in a ridiculous Tory stronghold. I'm looking for a way to show the teachers though. Unfortunately there's not much sign of support at the moment.

I'm hoping to nip to a picket line with some biscuits and some hot drinks. I can't imagine it will be warm on the 1st of February!
Other than some supportive social media posts, I don't know what else to do!

I was on a picket line last Tuesday from 7.30am in the peeing rain and cold and would have loved someone to have shown support like that. Unfortunately my school is at the end of a cul de sac so we didn't even get a toot!

Oh how disheartening!
Good on you for sticking it out and good luck Flowers

Take cakes to the picket, and stop for a chat with them.

Vote Labour! We need a change if nothing else to change the blame narrative.

Last voted Labour for Blaire and very exciting it was too. He did very well and then unfortunately went tits up. Think starmer is hopeless snd would much prefer Raynor but Labour can't work out what a woman is so that's off the cards.

Teachers are striking as part of a general move to bring down thr government snd it needs bringing down/election.

Just waiting to see the disillusion when youngsters realise all the parties are shite

But we can all hope

Keep your kids off school on those days regardless of whether their teachers are striking or not. It shows support to the staff and if you tell the school that's why they're off it puts mild pressure on those not striking to support their colleagues and discourages punitive behaviour towards those on strike from those who aren't.

justaskingaquestion · 17/01/2023 22:03

Interesting @User0ne as I am worried about the pressure from our (particularly shit) Head. I'd like to send her a message so will definitely make it clear what I'm doing and why.

As for the other ideas, treats we can do!

Does there have to be a picket line does anyone know?

No there doesn’t have to be a picket line. Some teachers will do it some won’t, depends on the school.

if there is one, don’t cross it. That’s quite important. And yeah if you can bring coffee/tea/cake/sausage rolls.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 17/01/2023 23:09

@User0ne nobody should be putting any pressure on none strikers, no matter how mild the pressure is.

The decision to strike for those in the public sector is extremely difficult and there is no right or wrong. Support is needed for all , not just the ones who do strike.

Sneakyblinders · 20/01/2023 10:38

I might email the head to express support not that I think he cares!
