Can someone explain pre-diabetes scores please?

I have googled but come out of it more confused 🤔

I have a blood sugar monitor as part of the Zoe nutrition study so have been obsessively measuring my glucose scores! They are actually fairly uneventful, in that I don't seem to get particularly big spikes after eating (but then I am being careful with what Im eating.) However, they do just seem to bumble along slightly high all day, rarely over 7 but equally, rarely under 6. Is this a bit high? Am I in the pre-diabetes range with these numbers?

Hba1c 42-47 is defined as pre diabetes

Ah ok, so it's only diagnosed on Hba1c? Didnt know that, thanks.

It is. An Hba1c of 42-47 indicates prediabetes and regular readings of 6-7 over time equate to that Hba1c level.

So yes, 6-7 through the day would be mildly high as 4-6 is a normal pre-meal range.

GPs get extra money for every patient they can ‘diagnose’ as pre diabetic, it’s another con like the ‘get everyone on statins’ cos that gets them more budget too! 6 or 7 is not a high blood glucose level, we used to report anything over 10.

The charity Diabetes UK has a really good helpline if you are worried about anything related to diabetes.

Yes, please use Diabeyes UK, they are fantastic, I have used them since diagnosis 2ish years ago.
