15 and 17 year old DC . Currently get £50 a month each. They use this for everything - socialising, buying clothes and anything else they want.

the kids say it’s a bit on the low side. Just wondering how it compares to others?

17yo £20-30 a week

itbemay · 15/01/2023 22:17

That's for lunch x3 at college as well

Youdoyoubabe · 15/01/2023 22:19

If it includes lunches and travel then a bit low I would say. 17 year old could get part time job. 15 year old, not out partying yet so probably needs less.

DD 17yo, .£35 per month. Although we also pay lunches and phone.
She has a weekend job that pays about £135 per month. Seems to manage on that ok, with money for birthdays and Christmas as well.

14 year old gets £30/month but we buy clothes, phone, school lunches. The pocket money is for socialising or saving towards something bigger we won’t buy. (Side eyes at Nike tech fleeces)

He is looking for a part time job.

14 year old DS gets £20 a month base rate with the option to earn more working for me. It's purely social money or if he wants to specifically buy something. His phone, clothes and food are paid for.

DC is 16, they get £50 a month plus £3 a day lunch money for days they are at college so probably works out £100 a month (less in the months where there are school holidays) plus we pay for college bus pass. So the £50 is for socialising, gym, clothes (we buy their toiletries and pay for haircuts). I think it is reasonable plus their grandma gives them £10 a week!

They do have a weekend job now in addition and are earning around £300 a month which is pretty much funding their expensive clothes habit 🤷‍♀️

13&16 year old get £15pm plus phone and oldest has gym membership (& they both have bus passes). 16 year old has a PR job and we buy all clothes, toiletries etc although he has to top-up if he wants designer /branded stuff. Can't afford much more plus I know oldest wouldn't get a job unless he had to!

Aquamarine1029 · 15/01/2023 23:24

The 17 year old should have a job.

middleager · 15/01/2023 23:30

My two 16 year olds get £60 a month, mobiles paid, lunches paid, basic gym memberships paid and we buy any clothes too. They're not really into clothes so, that's not often.

It was £40 per month until last week.

2 X 18 year olds get 50 a month each from us; that's 15 'allowance', 20 lunch money and 15 contribution to fuel for the school run - they drive themselves, pick up friends and share the rest of the fuel and parking costs. The car is jointly owned by them and me.
We pay for phones, car tax and insurance. They each earn around 200 a month, and that covers everything else (clothes, social etc).

middleager · 15/01/2023 23:31

And bus passes!
