Is cladding just over already?

I really love the look of it but am worried its just dated.

I don't usually care what people think but I hate 'trends'

My hall is very similar to this (Google photo with yellow door) and this is the flooring I want.

I'm having all white walls, ceilings and all black woodwork (2nd pic for reference)

I just think cladding on the bottom half in black would just look so good?

That's what I'm thinking! But also worried it will be one of those things people snigger at and it's not super easy to remove!

Could you get your fix by painting the lower portion instead of wooden panelling?

Do you mean panelling?

If your house is Victorian or Edwardian I would be more inclined to restore the dado rail that was probably there previously and install anaglypta panels. Classic and period-appropriate.

Tamarindtree · 15/01/2023 22:17

Personally, I don’t like the look of it and think it looks like the homeowner has tried to hide cracks or damp.

But it’s your home, so you have whatever you like.

I've got a Victorian hallway with dado rail and the original anagalypta underneath which is painted black - it looks amazing
The black textured paper works better than flat paint and is a good mix of the original paper and the modern colouring (parchment above, Matt black below)
We kept the woodwork and plasterwork brilliant white as it made the black pop more and also the back part of the hall is dark so it lifted the hallway but it could look good in black too.
I have black woodwork in my studio and it looks really sharp with white walls.

Don’t put in the modern cheap MDF panelling. Anaglypta painted black beneath the dado would look brilliant.

PS cladding is usually external and panelling usually internal. Not always but a useful rule of thumb. I thought this thread was going to be about the post-Grenfell cladding laws.

If it's a Victorian or Edwardian house then yes.

No! I have an ultra modern house so the decor is all modern. In period properties I love anaglypta.

HaggisBurger · 16/01/2023 09:18

Lincrusta is nicer than anaglypta imho

Sparklingblah · 16/01/2023 09:21

Do you think anaglypta is too much for a 1920s arts and crafts style house??

I think I'd rather the £10 version 😂

superdupernova · 16/01/2023 10:18

I had no idea what anaglypta was! I love period features but I couldn't do that. I grew up in the 80s and it reminds me of my childhood home... which was a small Victorian terrace, the two up two down very cramped kind. It would probably look lovely in a grander Victorian or Edwardian home.

wonkylegs · 16/01/2023 10:21

I think that some of the Lincrusta patterns are nice just as some of the Anaglypta patterns are nice and both makes also have some horrible patterns, lots are very similar. They are just brands.
Our Anagalypta is an original pattern from the early days of the company so matches the house and is quite possibly original (we replaced some damaged panels) or at least from an early redecoration.
On their website it gives the dates of the heritage patterns so you can get something right for the era if you wish.
