I’m starting today!

SquatBetty · 16/01/2023 13:22

I've done it! Didn't quite finish it though and didn't stick to it very well but AMA 😂

AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek · 16/01/2023 15:17

@FurAndFeathers how's your first day going? I'm sat here drinking tea with milk and feeling like a rebel. Life is sad.

@SquatBetty what about it did you not stick to? The food? The exercise? The cult vibes?? I see myself lasting until Wednesday.

I managed the exercise ok. It was the food I fell down on. The diet is quite restrictive and I found it tiresome to do something separate for myself whilst doing a meal for the rest of the family. I also simply didn't have the time to eat 6 separate small meals not to mention all the food prep involved. And of course you've got to stick to it even if you go out for a meal.

I think if you can stick to it 100% it will make a huge difference and I reckon you could lose up to a couple of stone (I did lose a little weight and definitely upped my fitness levels) but in the end I just didn't have the will power to stick to the diet.

I did the September wave and lost a stone and def shaped up. Was very dedicated for a couple of months but then motivation waned. Your head needs to be in the game - as soon as you falter the cult vibes get annoying! 75 days feels like a long time. Do x2 meal replacement per day, otherwise it feels like you're constantly cooking. And I wasn't puritanical about the no-salt thing. Some of those recipes really benefit from a sprinkle!

AgingLikeAFineJacobsCreek · 18/01/2023 09:02

the recipes are ok but it’s a bit ‘101 ways with chicken’, so I’m not doing that. I can come up with my own healthy way of eating protein and veg.

the thing that’s bugging me the most is their ‘no nonsense’ approach. For example, someone just posted a picture of their green smoothie. This person is new to the game, dieting isn’t natural for them, they were looking for a bit of praise. But the trainers tore him a new arsehole for not swapping like for like.

Similarly, someone just posted that they’ve got a heavy cold. Response? Do not ever use OTC medicine. Too much sugar. Jesus Christ, let the woman have a Lemsip.

Yes, their approach is downright rude and intimidating - not to mention their refusal to explain why certain things are off limits, just 'stick to the rules'. And the founder is a egotistical narcissist of the first order. It may suit some people, but it's not for me.

redavocado · 28/04/2023 16:49

I've done two waves. Kind of. I dropped out of the second when I got pregnant a few weeks in! The exhaustion and nausea made it impossible to follow.

I don't think I'd do another. I didn't mind their approach to start but it does begin to grate and I found it hard to stick to while parenting and working full time and attempting to have any kind of social life.

Having said that, if you have the time and mindset, you can achieve great things!

dogrilla · 28/04/2023 20:00

Great if you go all in, as you definitely get results, but I have never put weight back on as quickly as I did with SPR. The whole no sugar, salt or artificial flavour thing annoyed me too seeing as the meal replacement shakes are absolutely packed with all three.

carlottavaldes · 26/05/2023 17:35

I did the January wave this year and loved it. I lost a stone, but more importantly I feel like I learned how to eat properly for the first time in my life. Any food plan where you get to have three meals and three big snacks a day and still lose weight is a winner in my book (e.g. 3 scrambled eggs is a snack!).

They make it very clear that to maintain the weight loss you have to stick to the plan for 5 days a week after the wave finishes - I've been doing that and have maintained my weight so far. I no longer drink or have sugary foods, so it has been a big life change, but worth it for me - I've battled with my weight for 20 years but now I feel in control of it for the first time. And if I have an indulgent week on holiday or something I know exactly what to do to get my weight back down again.

So yes, I'm a big fan, but to keep the results you have to keep eating that way, 5 days a week, which is not for everyone.
