I can’t face work tomorrow.

I had a panic attack on Friday and had to phone in sick and now I constantly either feel drained or on the verge of another one.

I have a GP appointment on Friday but I just can’t face going to work tomorrow. I find my job so stressful and it is not helping. I don’t know whether to get signed off sick or quit or what and I feel like such a failure because I can’t do anything right.

Go to the GP and get signed off. Use the time to regroup and be able to think about it rationally. It’s soul destroying to feel like this and you mental health is worth so much more. Be off, grab your duvet, watch a good film and forget about work for a few days. Far too many of us are struggling on a Sunday- be good to yourself x

Does work have counselling on offer via HR?

NervousToad · 15/01/2023 20:15

No counselling just a mental health tick sheet.

Will you spend tomorrow ruminating if you do phone in sick?
I've lived through hellish times having regular panic attacks. It's horrific I know.
If I phoned in sick I'd be straight on the phone to the GP to try and get an appointment sooner and get a sick note or I'd only stress about my absence.

Largethighsbadeyes · 15/01/2023 20:21

I've been there OP to the point where I thought about crashing my car on the way in just to have a "valid" excuse not to go into the office.

I got signed off in the end and it was for quite a while.

I suggest you phone in sick tomorrow and then try and get a GP appointment sooner if you can.

The thing is, mental health issues are a "valid" reason, but just try telling most employers that

Don’t do anything hasty like quit. Get signed off if you don’t feel well enough to work and have a breather think things through. Hope you feel better soon.

An assumption on how your sickness policy works here but most are occurrences rather than days so you may as well stay off u til you are ready to go back. Speak with the GP. If your work is making you ill, look for another job. It's not worth your mental health. Take time to assess yourself, your workplace and what it is you need. Flowers

No advice but just to say I empathise. I feel the same. I can't be signed off sick as I don't get paid when off and we can't afford it.
I'm honestly praying for heavy snow overnight so I can't go or I don't know-anything to stop me having to go. I used to love my job. I just feel like I can't do it anymore.

It’s always hardest on a Monday. But if you don’t go in on Monday, it makes it even harder to go in on Tuesday. Go in tomorrow and be physically present because employers value presenteeism more than pretty much anything. But promise yourself if you don’t feel any better, or if you feel any worse, by the end of Monday then take a sick day on Tuesday.

I was like this, zoning out or overthinking, finding it hard to make decisions and ended up going on anti depressants which massively helped. Took 2 weeks off til and spent most of the first week sleeping, stable by second week.
