Roundabout lanes

Can everyone confirm if you are in the left lane at a roundabout it is for turning left and for driving straight ahead, and that right lanes are for turning right and to go back on yourself.
It seems where I live nobody knows the rules of the road. I had awful abuse from a driver who was in the right lane and wanted to go straight ahead at the same time as me, which is just one lane. He accused me of lying that to go ahead you need to be in the left lane. Am I incorrect or are some drivers too dangerous for the roads these days?

There's a roundabout near us where over 95% will enter in the right hand lane and cut across, exiting in left hand lane of 2. It's so frustrating. If you're going to start off in the right hand lane to go straight ahead, at least come off in the right hand lane so you're not cutting up people in the left. But it is so common I know to watch out for it.

You can be in the right hand lane and go straight across as well as turn right.

Unless there are painted arrows on the road stating differently

Left lane unless you are going PAST 12 o clock.

My driving instructor taught me both lanes straight ahead.. The point is. Go slowly over a roundabout, don't barge in generally and don't try and overtake ON the roundabout and filter in to make everyone's experience better.

If there's two lanes onto the roundabout, and the exit lane opposite only has one lane, then you need to be in the left lane to exit there. If you are in the right lane, you should not exit there but instead exit right, or go round and reposition yourself.

Nail on the head there. If someone goes into the roundabout in the right hand lane intending to exit straight on, it's THEY who then have to merge back into the left hand lane to leave the roundabout. The person who goes into the roundabout in the left hand lane is already in the correct lane to leave the roundabout when it's only one lane width exit.

I agree with everyone here, so many people are clueless on roundabouts. Hopefully this will post OK - this is one near me and at least half the people in the left hand lane drive straight over; we nearly got hit there last night.
