Posting here for traffic Grin

So last night booked this summers holiday to Italy - yay!

Then remembered that since last travelling out of the uk I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism so now have the dreaded "pre existing condition " - noooo!

Can anyone recommend a travel insurance provider that will provide reasonable standard cover with this /good service without fleecing us?

I'm managing absolutely fine with daily thyroxine and no issues.

Thanks in advance!

Never ever been quoted higher price due to my hypothroidism

i complete the online quote with and without to see difference and always the same

Anyone should be fine. I’ve never had an issue or paid over the odds

Aaah that's interesting thanks so much.

Good to know.

Daft question but what about HRT, does peri count as a condition?

I didn't have to declare hormonal treatments for contraception or menopause on my policy and there's no additional charges for my pre existing medical conditions (dealt with by daily medication)

Struggling to think of a medical emergency on holiday where being hypothyroid would be a concern.

DH declares his glaucoma - doesn't make a difference to the policy.

My asthma however does make a serious difference.

chipsandpeas · 14/01/2023 11:55

i declare i am hypothyroid doesnt make any difference to the premium but would rather declare it than give a reason to not pay out

ofwarren · 14/01/2023 11:59

Never made a difference on my premiums either

Brilliant thanks all my mind is at rest.

Anna yes I agree, I think I was worried that despite that it could be just a handy way to hike costs up anyway.

Great - off to Google in a mo.

Have a lovely weekend all x

Would imagine you should be OK with some of the basic companies if you have difficulty try this site www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/everyday-money/insurance/travel-insurance-directory#
It lists the companies that do cover preexisting conditions. It's bests to try standard insurance first as these can be more expensive (it's costing me £250 for a week in Spain this summer!)

Floralnomad · 14/01/2023 12:55

I have loads of pre existing conditions including hypothyroidism and I’ve never paid a lot for travel insurance .

UPDATE - Booked this evening through a company underwritten by AXA and pretty much paid what we have in the past with nice low excesses. Condition declared as it didn't make any difference to quote but you know - just in case.

Thanks again all Grin
